Background

Arlo grew up in an Upper West Side Jewish family that was perfectly normal in all the ways that mattered. When he was fifteen, his mutation manifested, and he couldn't control it at first. He was reading people's senses, forcing them to experience his own, and when his family figured out what was going on, they kicked him out. No filthy mutant was going to live under their roof and ruin their respectable reputation within the community.

In time, Arlo learned how to control his mutation, most of the time. He can filter out his heightened senses and lead a relatively normal life for a street rat with few prospects. Sometimes his powers flare up and he's a wreck til they calm down again, but those moments are few and far between.

Arlo has gotten fed up with the anti-mutant rhetoric. He has spent more time in Mutant Town, exchanged shame for grudging pride, and he has become less likely to let bigotry slide. This has gotten him in more than a few fights.

Traits

  • Heightened Awareness: He has an enhanced 360 degree awareness that makes him hard to sneak up on. He's also likely to notice even subtle changes in his immediate environment. This awareness helps him in combat, too, as he's keenly aware of the strengths and weaknesses of his opponents.
  • Enhanced Senses: When he focuses, he can sharpen his senses to superhuman intensity. For example, he can focus his vision to pick up subtleties others might miss; he can 'read' a paper just by touching the indentation of the ink on the page; he can taste toxins; smell chemical changes and altered pheromone levels; and he can filter out and listen to conversations taking place quieter than normal human hearing would pick up.
  • Synesthesia: He can trigger synesthesia in his brain at will in order to do things like see sounds and smell colors.
  • Shared Senses: With either willing or weak-minded people, he can share what his senses are perceiving. They must be within line of sight or he must know where they're located within a fifty foot radius. He can only do this with up to five individuals at a time, and the effect only lasts for about ten minutes before he has to rest for at least an hour.
  • Sensory Scrying: With effort, he can experience what someone else is sensing. He can only do this with one person (or animal) at a time, and only for about an hour before he has to stop. The stronger-willed the target, the harder it is to do, and the less human the animal, the more muddled the information. He can't be doing anything else while he's doing this, and he's vulnerable for the duration. The target has to either be within line of sight or he has to know their location within a fifty foot radius.
