Background
Born in Greece with a debilitating blood disease, Michael Morbius was 20 when the Germans invaded his country. Already well on his way to becoming a biochemist with aspirations to cure himself, he survived the German occupation by flying under the radar, keeping his wits about him, and working in the sciences for people who tore his country apart. One thing to be said of the occupation; they didn't have many rules regarding far-fetched experimentation, which proved to be quite helpful in his efforts to cure himself, using himself as the test subject.
Nearly immediately after the war, Greece was plunged into a civil war which was far less convenient for Michael and his work. None the less, his it finally bore fruit in 1948 when he won a Nobel Prize for his work in biochemistry and won renewed renown in his field from around the globe. Increased pressure from the two polarized factions of government may have made him more desperate and careless in his experimentation as the climate in Greece became increasingly hostile; regardless, it all finally came to a shocking conclusion soon after when he succeeded in accomplishing his goal with an experimental treatment involving vampire bats and electroshocks. Michael was cured, but he was also cursed with insatiable bloodlust and pseudo-vampirism.
To sate that immediate lust, Michael killed his best friend/assistant and fled his station, to a boat where he could leave his country and head to America. He killed several more people while at sea, and wracked with guilt and fear, he came to the US as a vagrant. Desperate and half mad, unable to control himself, it took Morbius time to learn the limits and demands of his new physiology. He remained a man of science, however, and a /good/ man at his core, clawing for redemption, though he seems to get suckered into situations he has no business being in and paying for it. Still learning, still searching for a way back to his humanity, Morbius had a whole new world of the occult, supernatural, super-powered and monsterous open up to him through his journey, currently working to build a haven for monsters and monsterous humanoids in New York.
IC Events
Traits
- Superhuman Strength: Morbius' strength capabilities, like many of his powers, may be altered depending on the amount of blood he has ingested recently, and whose. Well-fed, he possesses superhuman strength to lift approximately 1,500 lbs, but may be somewhat more, depending on if he drinks the blood of someone with that power.
- Superhuman Speed: Morbius may run and move at speeds up to 700 MPH.
- Superhuman Stamina: Hand in hand with his regenerative healing factor, Michael's body produces less fatigue toxins during physical activity than a normal human. This allows him to physically exert himself at peak capacity for hours before it begins to impair him.
- Superhuman Agility and Reflexes: Like any dime store superhuman, Michael's agility, balance, bodily coordination and reflexes are enhanced beyond the natural physical limits of the finest human athlete, making it possible for him to maneuver his speeds and traverse difficult spaces or dodge things without falling on his face.
- Superhuman Senses Acuity: Michael's senses of sight and smell are enhanced to levels beyond that of normal human's, allowing him to detect objects with perfect clarity at eight times a normal human's ability and retain clarity even in near-darkness. He is also able to peer into the infra-red end of the electromagnetic spectrum, allowing him to see individuals at night or in a fog by their body heat. His sense of smell is similarly enhanced, allowing him to detect the scent of blood in the air from miles away.
- Regenerative Healing: Morbius possesses an accelerated healing factor which enables him to rapidly regenerate damaged tissue hundreds of times quicker than a human, even from fatal wounds. Injuries such as gunshots, slashes, and severe burns heal within hours or minutes. This regeneration is limited to not regrowing limbs or harvested organs.
- Sharp and Pointy: Vampiric standing curses Morbius to possess elongated canines for the purpose of piercing flesh and consuming blood, or as weapons in very close combat. He also possesses a retractable claws rather than normal fingernails. The claws are very sharp, capable of rending human flesh and bone with ease.
- Psionic Gliding: Through mental concentration, Michael may glide through the air over short distances at speeds of about 35 miles an hour.
- Pseudo-Vampirism: Morbius isn't a supernatural vampire, therefore, he is not affected by their mystical/religious vulnerabilities. Religious icons are simply that, and while he is sensitive to sunlight (in the way one with albinism is), he does not burst into flames when stepping into it. Morbius also has no expressly special vulnerability to silver, or wooden stakes driven through his heart. But it does sting.
- Good For Your Age: Morbius may not look 'good' for his age, but due to his pseudo-vampirism, as long as he is able to keep fed, his life will be extended and age at a decreased rate. He isn't certain at what pace or what may come of him later, but he seems to be keeping up thusfar.
- Progenitor: Rarely when Morbius bites a victim and drains them of blood, the symptoms of pseudo-vampirism will infect that person. (Consent and Plot Purposes only).
