Hong Kong (AP) — Southern China and Hunan Island, in the South China Sea, experienced a brief magnitude 6.1 earthquake on October 24.

The trembling occurred near the Indochina Plate and the South China Plate, in a semi-tropical area famed for its beaches and jungles.

Casualties at this time are unknown.
