The X-men were formed by Charles Xavier, with help from his good friend Erik Lensherr after the former's attempts to work alongside the Central Intelligence Agency in hopes of prosperity for mutant kind came to an end. The Xavier Institute is first, and foremost, a school where mutant kind can come to learn how to control, and hopefully, use their mutant genes for the betterment of both humans and mutants. Students also receive a world class education from a fine teaching staff, fully accredited by the State of New York.
But beneath the halls of students with books, pencils, and erasers there is held something else entirely. The X-men, as they are jokingly called, train down in the sub-basement of the building, honing their skills and preparing for danger. Though strictly a humanitarian and rescue operation to this point, the team trains more like a military operation than the Peace Corps.
