Sam and Christine's second date went off without a hitch, at least as far as he is concerned. Dinner at a nice little place in Midtown, and a movie. The Nutty Professor, starring Jerry Lewis. Sam's always liked Jerry Lewis; goofy guy, good for a laugh. The movie may not have been the pinnacle of motion picture art, but good for a second date. Sam was, of course, a well-behaved gentleman, which being an eighteen year old boy makes a bit more difficult than you might otherwise except. Still, his hands and lips were kept in check, maybe thanks to a recently instilled sense of fear of Christine's grandmother; on some level, Sam's worried she would /just know/ if he had overstepped a boundary.

They pair parted ways not long ago, with Sam once again escorting the girl back to her apartment. Afterward, he had made his way back to his dorm room on his own, but feeling too energized to sleep, chose instead to don his father's helmet and go out into the city. Now, perched atop a building ledge overlooking the neighbourhood just outside the Columbia University campus, he watches the ground below, keeping an eye for any wrongdoing, suspicious character, or person in need of some kind of help. He's feeling good, which translates to wanting to do some good.

After Sam escorted her back home, Christine was feeling like she could fly. Even though she acutualy can fly. But, Sam had been a perfect companion and gentleman. The movie had been nice and light-hearted, giving them both laughs. On the way back home, Christine had et Sam hold her hand, something she's sure her grandmother would have found positively scandalous. But all in all, a wonderful second date. And the science and math talk between them over dinner had been a highlight for her. And in keeping with the positive feeling she had going on, Christine thought it would be a good time for a little patroling.

It took her a few minutes to change into the costume and get ready. But once dressed int eh light blue and gold bodysuit, Christine, or more accurately, Lightwave, opened up a window overloking an alleyway, and then took to the night sky. Once she was far enough away from he apartment, Lightwave started glowing; it was a ind of point that she wanted to make to the citizens below, making it obvious that there was someone above watching out for them. She hoped it helped make the citizens feel a bit safer, anyways. But, the sound of an alarm nearby shook Lightwave out of her reverie, and she started flying towards the source of the disturbance: a jewlery store with a panel van accelerating away from the broken entrance door.

The sensors in Nova's helmet are wonderfully useful, alerting Sam to all kinds of interesting events. The alarm from the jewelry store doesn't go unnoticed, and Sam lifts himself up into the sky, flying swiftly toward the scene of the crime. The blue streak of light that Nova appears to become while in flight decelerates quickly on arrival, and he takes quick stock of the situation. Lightwave's approach isn't noticed right away, but he does spot the van speeding away. Nova lifts himself back into the sky, accelerating to catch up with it, overhead. "Really, a jewelry store heist? How cliche," he chuckles to himself. It's the kind of night that calls for some joking around with the criminal masterminds behind this daring escapade.

*

With two brightly glowing heroes after them, the thieves are pretty quick to notice. The rear dor of the van opens up and the chatter of automatic gun fire fills the night. The van swerves around traffic, throwing off the gunmen's aim.

With the bullets flying at her and the man now flying in front of her, LIghtwave puts up a small shield to protect ehrself as she advances. The other hero is to far away for her to help, sadly. Just before the shield comes up, though, a round hits her in the arm, causing the heroine to wince at the impact. Lightwave forges on, however, trying to get closer to the other flying hero to help protect him. "Hang on!" she shouts out to him. "I'll put a field around us both in a second…"

*

The bullets harmlessly bounce off of Nova's armour, causing him to smirk. "Guns, cute," he says, continuing to creep up on the speeding van. The voice from behind causes him to cast a glance back toward Lightwave, and he cocks his head slightly to the side, his smile evident as he looks at her. "Don't worry about me," he calls back, accelerating forward to overtake the van. Once in front of it, he turns and extends his arms out in front of him. Nova releases a blast of kinetic force, directing it at the front of the van. The blast wouldn't have been strong enough to stop it, but maybe slow it down enough for the girl flying behind him to catch up, or even force them to come to a stop on their own. If this weren't the middle of a downtown street, he'd try just knocking the vehicle over, but there are other residents and innocents to consider, not to mention the fact that Sam isn't one of those heroes who just disregards the lives of the criminals themselves.

*

With the bullets seemign to have no effect on the pursuing heroes, you would think that the thieves would stop shooting. However, the general consensus of this brain trust is that *more* bullets are needed. You have to give them credit for consistancy and focus…

Seeing that the other hero is pretty much bulletproof, Lightwave stops worrying about him getting hurt. "Okay then," she says to him. Time for a new tactic. Instead of trying to fly near the other hero, Lightwave pulls up and gets to an angle where she's not in the direct line of fire from the rear door. Dropping her force shield, she shoots out a beam of light, just trying to make contact with the van. Having learned her lesson from the last speeding vehicle she tried to stop, Lightwave insted slowly increases the strength of the beam, flying backwards and acting like an anchor on the van, slowing it's speed considerably.

*

Between the kinetic waves coming at them from the front, and the light-anchor pulling from the back, after a few seconds the van has no choice but to slow to a stop. Nova drops a little lower to the ground, still hovering above it as he approaches the stopped vehicle, keeping his eyes locked on those in the front seats. His sensors are tracking Lightwave as well, though she seems capable of handling herself at this stage. "Come out peacefully, fellas," Sam says, and if she's paying attention, that voice might sound familiar, considering she just spent a good portion of the evening listening to it, "I'm not even mad about the guns, really. I mean, good try? Boys will be boys, and all that? But seriously, time to rethink your plan here, right?" His golden gauntlets start to glow again, readying another kinetic blast in case they decide not to play nice. Which, obviously, he believes to be the more likely scenario.

*

With the van now stopped, Lightwave switches her beam to put a barrier at the open rear door and pushes the thieves back inside, blocking them in. "i really don't think they had a plan," Lightwave calls out to her improptu partner. There's something nagging at her about the other hero's voice, but she can't quite place it. As for her own voice, Christine tries to efect a 'Maralyn Monroe' pitch, and mostly succeeds. Either way, the sound of sirens is getting louder as New York's finest close in. Inside the van, guns are dropped and hands are raised. Soon, three squad cars have arrived and have guns drawn on the van's occupants. With the situation in hand, Lightwave starts to lift up, saluting to cops and giving a wave to Nova. "Good working with you," she says to him.

*

"You'll have some time to re-evaluate your life pretty soon, looks like," Nova says as the police arrive. He's not too keen to hang around and answer any questions, so when the squad cars pull up, and Lightwave begins to depart, so too does Nova. Shortly after she lifts into the air, he follows. "Hey, wait up a second," he calls to the woman. "Can't just stop a jewel heist together, and not at least get each others names," he says to her. "That was some impressive work with the.. tractor beam?"

*

Oh, right! Names. Lightwave smiles and blushes a bit as her partner catches up. "Sorry, I'm pretty new at this. But my name's Lightwave." She's slowed down to fly next to him a bit. "And it wasn't a tractor beam. I'm a photokinetic; a light manipulator. I can creathe things made of solid light. So really, I just started flying backwards puling while you were pushing at the front." And flying this close, the domino mask Lightwave is wearing doesn't do much to disguise her features, especially not to someone that's already spent most of the evening with her.

*

Nova pulls up close enough to hear easily, even with the sound of the wind rushing past. "I'm Nova," he says once close enough. "Whatever it was, it was good.." Wait a second. The mask the girl is wearing might do a decent job of keeping her identity a secret from a glance, but this close, her features are /awfully/ familiar. He blinks a couple times inside his helmet, a fact which is obscured by it, and hesitates a moment to ensure he's not just imagining things. His voice is a bit tentative, not 100% sure he's right. But he did just spend a fair bit of time tonight looking at her face, and he's usually pretty good with faces.. "… Christine?"

*

Hearing her real name used brings a lok of shock and terror to the heroine's face. Her face goes pale and her eyes go wide and her heart starts pounding in her chest. But with the shock comes a certain awareness of why Nova's voice sounded fmailiar. And Christine/Lightwave manages to get enough breath in her to squeak out. "….Sam?"

Clearly, date number three was going to be a lot more interesting.
