"Thanks a lot for your help," Steve says as he opens the door to the trailer. He had to borrow Ned from SHIELD's car for the move since all he has is a motorcycle and it seems rather difficult to haul a trailer behind a bike.
Behind Steve, in the back, is a pretty light load. There's a chair, a sofa, a bed that has been taken apart, a mattress, a radio, a television set, along with some other loose ends and a couple trips full of boxes. He hasn't been back from the dead long enough to accumulate a ton of things, it seems.
The move is sort of difficult on Steve. He grew up in Brooklyn, so to be moving is an admission that he is cutting out part of his history. Still, this seems like the best idea for a host of different reasons.
*
"Sure. It's nice to occasionally do something where there's no chance of being attacked by a giant head in a floating chair." Bobby answers. "Though I suppose we can't rule that out, can we?" He looks up the length of the outside of the building. "Fancy. I'd have thought you were more a Greenwich Village guy."
*
"Day isn't over yet," Steve says with a smile as he carries the first box towards the door. The doorman gives Steve a nod and opens it for him.
"More of a Brooklyn guy, really. It's just that with having my name out in the public like I do, it seems like a better idea to stay somewhere that I have my back covered. And where my neighbors can be protected."
*
"Makes sense." Bobby agrees. "Safety in numbers and all that. Plus now you have twice as many potential enemies trying to kill you: yours or theirs. Keep things from getting boring. Though I'd probably have picked some less well known neighbors, a different names on the lease, and a fake mustache."
*
"I kind of think the only neighbors that would be safe around me might be the Marines," Steve says as they enter the elevator. "Besides, I don't look good in a fake mustache." Eyebrow pops up as he looks over towards Bobby, "Don't think I'd look good in a real mustache, come to think of it."
*
Bobby gives Steve a quick, appraising look. "No, probably not. The clean cut, boy next door look is probably the best choice. Drive the girls crazy." he's quick to add. "So uhh, anything on that guy in the chair?"
*
"Well, they're not exactly lining up, so maybe facial hair should be something I look into," Steve says as the doors pop open. "I was going to ask you the same thing. I don't really know much other than what I've read. I was still tracking down information about those clay soldiers."
*
Bobby shakes his head. "I don't know anything. I figure if the paper pusher finds out anything and needs me, he'll let me know. I'm not in a hurry to head out with them again. Course, I don't need to like them to work with them considering what that little problem is."
*
"Wait," Steve says as he fumbles with the keys. "I'm not sure I'm following." The door opens to reveal a very nice, but very small apartment, all in white. "Cheapest option they had," Steve says with a wink as he sets the box on the table. It seems that what he's really paying for is the view. "Like them? You having issues with some of the people on the team?"
*
"Nothing that staying far away won't fix." Bobby answers with a quick grin. "But we're professionals and can't put that aside when necessary. Like when nukes are involved." Since they're in the apartment, they can speak a bit more freely. Walking over to the window, he looks out. "Nice."
*
"You're dodging me, Iceman," Steve says as he looks out alongside him. "Not sure how well staying far away is going to be as far as strategy goes."
*
"Like I said, I can put that aside when it comes to the nukes and I assume they can. After that?" Bobby says with a shrug. "I'm not sure if it's going to work out. I assumed you'd be leading things. You, I have faith in."
*
"Under normal circumstances, I will," Steve says. He swallows and holds his fingers against his head for a moment. "I'm missing so much of the story having not been there. What happened?"
*
Bobby considers the question a moment before he shakes his head. "Does it really matter? It's over and we're finally out of there. Let's just say I don't get along with SHIELD personnel. Maybe Alex will want to say more. I assume there's a report filed somewhere already you can read if you want to."
*
"Matters to me." Steve shrugs his shoulders, "But suit yourself, I'll give Alex a call and see if he'll tell me. Or I'll look over the files again."
*
"Well, you can call on my whenever you need to." Bobby assures Steve, stressing the 'you'. "I'd guess Alex feels the same about that but that's for him to say. And of course, the whole nuke thing is major enough that anything else doesn't matter."
*
Steve scratches at the back of his head and nods, "I'll try and smooth things out where I can. I appreciate you not throwing the baby out with the bathwater on this. We need you guys."
*
"Hey, who can say no to Captain America?" Bobby asks with a grin. "Not after just one shot, anyway. And not with you not even involved. I owe you for saving my dad's life too. Say, if you could sign a picture for him, he'd be fall over dead."
*
"Well, I'd be happy to sign whatever you want," Steve says with a chuckle as they head out to grab more of his things. "I gotta admit, though, it's not I keep photographs of me in costume just lying around."
*
"Well, point. And the old wartime ones are probably expensive." Bobby says, following Steve out. "Hey, how'd you like to come to dinner sometime? That would be even better. My dad will probably thank you a million times, making you very uncomfortable but my mom's a great cook so it'll be worth it. They live over on the Island."
*
"Don't see why not. Bound to be better than spam and eggs, which is pretty much all I can make." Steve shrugs his shoulders, "Haven't been out to the Island recently so it'd be good to see how it's changed."
*
"That's fantastic. I'll have to figure out a way to get it all set up without letting either of them know. I want it to b e a surprise." Bobby grins broadly. "They won't know what to say or do. It'll serve them right for setting me up on a date with Sue Collins when I was thirteen without telling me. Well, sort of a date."
*
As the pair end up back out on the street, they head over to the trailer. Steve grins and gives an upwards nod, "Well, is Sue Collins still single?" He chuckles a bit and motions to the trailer, "Here, help me get a hold of the sofa."
*
"Why, you want to go on a date with her?" Bobby asks. "I went to a private school not long after that so haven't seen any of those kids in years." He nods and moves to get one end of the couch. "Sure thing."
