Lorna sat down in the cafe a tray loaded down with a slice of pizza, and several plates of dessert. A slice of apple pie occupied a tiny plate, a slice of chocolate cake drizzled in chocolate syrup with whipped cream, two chocolate chip cookies, some kind of puff pastry and lastly a dish of chocolate pudding topped with crushed cookies.

Clearly, life was short and dessert mattered most.

Lorna herself sat alone by a window, several books propped up on a seat beside her. Her brown hair tumbling over her shoulders and partly tied back with a blue ribbon. She wore a brown pair of pants, a burnt orange sweater, and her Frost Institute jacket was draped over the back of her chair.

For all appearances she seemed to fit right in with everyone else. The only odd thing standing out was the bandage around her neck.

*

Jenny makes her way through the cafeteria, enjoying the meal stipend. She's got a decent salad on her tray along with the lunch entree. She grabs a can of Tab and places it on the tray as she makes her way over to Lorna's table. She'd seen the girl in class a couple times, somehow Ms. Frost made sure the pair had similar schedules. She grabs a seat at the table, not waiting for permission. She looks at the bandage around the brunette's bandage and nods. "A bit of rough luck there, eh?"

*

Lorna's eyes widen briefly as the girl, she looked familiar, sat down at the table opposite of her without asking. She floundered for several long moments, and her cheeks flushed at the comment in regards to her neck. A hand lifted and pressed against the bandage and she grimaced faintly, angling her gaze low to her food. Rather than respond immediately she took a healthy bite of a cookie before responding.

"Uhh yeah, guess you can say that. What was your name again? I missed it. I'm Lorna Dane.." She offered with a strained smile pulling at her lips.

*

Jenny wears the typical school uniform, blouse, blazer. and skirt. Her blonde hair is done up, held together with barrettes. She grins to Lorna. "Stavros. Jenn Stavros. Everyone's talking. They think you're hiding a hickey." She takes a bite of salad. "So the question is, did he get what was coming to him, good or bad?"

*

Another flush crossed Lorna's face, her eyes widening as she stared in shock. "W-what? No! It's not a hickey!" She crossed her arms, muttering under her breath as she glanced side long around them and back.

"I was attacked. Alright? Just some crazy guy.." She shook her head, "And yeah, I made him go away." She added, chewing her lower lip.

Lorna was small enough a figure that the concept seemed laughable, if that was all she was. Surely that was what those who did not know her thought.

*

Jenny raises a brow. She knew there was a reason why Emma put the pair together, along with a few other common faces she'd been noticing more and more. She nods approvingly. "Good. Assholes like that don't deserve to keep breathing oxygen." She says, her own opinion on folks who try to prey on weak-appearing women. "I know this isn't the place for a conversation on talents, but I'm sure we have more in common besides killer good looks. Keep an eye out for me around campus. I'll show you mine if you show me yours." She says with a playful wink.

*

Lorna rubbed her upper arms, her cheeks still tinged with pink as she glanced up at Jenny from beneath the fringe of brown bangs that hung in front of her green eyed gaze. "Well.. I think he's still very much able to breathe.. well," Her brows furrowed, "I don't know if he needs to breathe at all actually, like literally requires it.. Huh.." She tilted her head to the side in thought but did not elaborate.

"And uhh.. I don't exactly know everything that I can do..? I'm.. well, I'm still learning. A lot.. actually. It's complicated.."

*

Jenny giggles and nods. "We're students. Of course we're still learnin'. But there's something going on. It's why Ms. Frost plucked us all from obscurity. I'm guessing you have a similar rescue story that ends with you receiving an offer you couldn't pass up and a trip to this place, hmm? I mean, it *is* a pretty nifty deal. I'm not complaining. The woman's got reasons, though. Reasons behind reasons. I just wanna do away with the pretense and get on with the fun." She holds out her left hand for Lorna to see, A black disc forms in her hand. Another unsuspecting student walks by with their own tray. She tosses the disk at the boy, which then dissipates as the boy trips over his own feet, his tray landing in his face as he slides halfway across the cafeteria and into a rubbish bin.

*

Lorna fidgets in her seat as Jenny spoke of a near identical happening as her own experience in regards to the mysterious Miss Frost. Her gaze falling down her lap as she picked at her sleeves. "Er.. well.. yeah, sort of.." She mumbled faintly.

"I'm just thankful to have a chance at getting my degree at all.. and.. well, Miss Frost makes sure at least that I'm getting help with my.. ermm.. Abilities.." She eyed the poor boy that Jenn tripped, her brows flying upwards as she leaned this way and that to watch.

"What did you /do/?" She blinked repeatedly, her lips parting in surprise, before she darted a glance around the cafeteria to see if anyone had spotted what Jenn had done.

Then Lorna was leaning forward toward Jenn instead, "I.. well.. uhm.. I can't exactly… well not always.. make it work.. but I can.. well it's sort of like being a magnet I guess.."

*

Jenny nods. "Well, yes. Of course. I mean, I wasn't exactly looking to go back to school, but 3 squares a day, decent clothes, and no bars for a door kind of make the deal a bit sweeter." She giggles as the boy sails by, other students rushing to his aid. No one noticed that Jenn was the source of the boy's poor luck. In an answer to Lorna's question, she shrugs. "I've done nothing. The boy just had a spot of bad luck, is all." She grins. "I could make it the opposite as well." She says, privately showing Lorna a white disk before making it go away. She then listens to Lorna and nods. "A magnet? Like… literally, or that you attract things?"

*

A rise and fall of Lorna's shoulders follows and she reaches out for her fork. She turns it over in her hands, staring down at it. "Well, like literally I guess..? Sometimes. I guess. I don't really know everything that I can or can't do. But supposedly I should be able to affect anything that's metal. I mean.. I just.. well, when I'm upset or hurt, it sort of just happens. I'm learning though to control my emotional reactions better so I don't hurt anyone though."

A faint grimace pulled at her lips as she eye the white disk that Jenny created before she dispelled it. "I've set off alarms, messed up clocks and radios.. and shaken or ripped up metal things.. But mostly small things like paperclips or forks stick to me if I'm not paying attention." A pink tinge colors her cheeks again as she mumbles.

"Supposedly I should be able to bend like bullets away from me, and push off the Earth's electromagnetic fields and float or something.. I dunno. I really don't understand it just yet."

*

Jenny listens closely, eyes wide, her smile even wider. "That sounds totally badass, really. I mean, a little control would be nice, but one of these days we should find a spot somewhere so you can just let it rip. It'll feel good to just let it all out." She smiles. "It could just be your lucky day." She nods. "And floating or flying? That's totally boss! I can't do that no matter how lucky I am."

*

Lorna's blush deepened and she shook her head quickly, "Oh no, no, I don't think I can do that. Like.. when I try really really hard.. I often get nothing at all, actually." She mumbled, ducking her head as she picked at a cookie on her plate.

"It's totally lame. When I don't want it to do stuff, my powers are all over the place, and I have a hard time keeping them from acting up. When I try to do something?" She shook her head. "I've spent hours staring at quarters or forks and paper clips trying to get them to move and I get /nothing/.." She muttered, a sigh falling from her lips.

"I mean.. I guess I'm lucky that someone with my powers /is/ around here in New York.. and he's well informed with what he can do, and it's nice.. it would just be nicer if I could train with him more. But Miss Frost wants to be careful and it's really complicated.."

*

Jenny blinks. "You mean… You know of others?" It's now her turn to blush. "I mean, besides Ms. Frost, you're the only other one I know. I mean, I'm sure there are others. She's gathering us together for something. It must be why she's limiting your exposure to this… other… one." She smiles. "So, how are you doing in classes? Is that thing.." she says, motioning to Lorna's neck. ".. a distraction or not?"

*

Lorna's brow furrowed, "Yeah, I've made friends with a few other students here too.. and well, there's another school. The Xavier Institute. I ended up there after an issue at the museum. Honestly, I keep running into others like us all over New York. It's really rather odd." She shrugged and reached over for another cookie to nibble on.

"I mean, I get why Miss Frost is being careful. There is a legitimate concern over others out there.. Like when I was at this school they were really worried about like.. the government or some gang or something using me for a weapon or bank robberies or something. They really wanted to make sure that I was safe and taken care of. They're good people." She smiled then, and shifted forward in her seat.

"And I'm not worried about Miss Frost, I mean like I know another student here that has her powers, the mind ones, and she loves Miss Frost. So I figure that Miss Frost has to be nice too." She shrugged, and then reached up toward her neck and pursed her lips.

"I'm not in classes for credit yet, I was late signing up. I'm just auditing. As far as this..? Well, I mean it itches.. I got cut up pretty bad.. but like it's not that bad. It's healing..? So it's all scabbed over.."

*

Jenny listens, interested. "Well, I guess that's what happens when I spend all my time back home in Atlantic City. As far as I knew, I was the only one like me. I'll have to head into the City sometime.. We should see what trouble we could stir up some weekend." She grins. "We're all going to be spending time together. You, me, this other girl. Emma's got us together for something. I think it may be pretty big." She says, her right hand forming another white disk. "Oh.. Catch." She says, tossing the disk in Lorna's direction.

*

Lorna's brows furrowed faintly, "Atlantic city? What were you doing there? And I don't really think that Miss Frost has anything nefarious in the works, really.. she's too nice." At the mention of trouble the young woman throws her hands up and vigorously shakes her head. "Oh no, no, I don't go looking for trouble. I just sort of.. " She was so busy denying looking for trouble, and the fact that it just /finds/ her constantly, when Jenny threw the white disk at her and she fumbled to catch it reflexively.

Then her eyes went wide as she did in fact catch it and she stared at Jenny. "Waaaait, what, what was /that/ exactly? What did you do?" Her eyebrows had shot up as she spoke.

*

Jenny smiles. "Atlantic City. I grew up there. Daddy worked for a bunch of casinos there. I left the house and hung out with a group of my friends down there until.. well… until I met Ms. Frost." She laughs out loud at Lorna's reaction and the disk dissipating as Lorna catches it. "Don't worry. It's white. I just gave you some good luck… for now. The black disks are bad luck." She covers her mouth and nose with her hand as she's still laughing.

*

Lorna's brows remain high and she makes a small 'ooh' with her lips as she finished off her cookie. "Oh, I'm from Upstate. So I guess I'm a bit biased.." She mumbled faintly, glancing down at her hand and turning it over and over again as if she might find a trace of the little white disk.

"I guess it's nice that your powers are color coded." She mumbled, wrinkling her nose as she cast a worried glance over Jenn.

"That doesn't mean that like I'm gonna use up all my good luck at at once and have bad luck after does it?" She tilted her head to the side, "Cause.. I dunno half the time if I'm having good or bad luck honestly.."

*

Jenny giggles and shakes her head. "No, it's a boost. It wears off and you'll just have your usual luck. It's always worked well for me." She shrugs, her meal finished off. In the distance, a bell chimes the hour. "Ah well. Time's a-wasting and I've got a class to get to. Take it easy, Attracto-Girl." She winks as she stands, grabbing her things to clean up.
