Bobbi sat back in her chair, legs hooked up and over the edge of her desk. A coffee cup, forgotten on her desk. She was reading various files, a stack already read on her desk before her. It was late, later than most agents bothered to stay, and the office was otherwise quiet. The blonde exhaled, dragging a hand through her hair as she shifted and cracked her neck.

"Damnit, can no one be bothered to type up a decent report?" She muttered under her breath, flipping through the files. She had just returned from an undercover op in Germany. It had been nearly a year since she'd been in the states and as a result, getting back into the hours was killer on her body. At least it allowed her to work in piece though.

*

These are the kinds of hours that a man like Grant thrives. He was always a night owl, and while he has no issue getting up early to work…he vastly prefers the cover of night. He moves through the halls of the base, dressed in the typical uniform of a SHIELD agent in 1963. Basically, a black suit and tie. It, like most things, looks good on him.

He hears sound from an office that would normally be quite around now, and he furrows his brow a bit. He moves to the door and creaks it open, peeking inside. He chuckles softly when he spots Bobbi, and he slips inside.

"Agent Morse! Good to see the Huns didn't take you down," he teases.

*

A glance was spared toward the door and the lights that flicked on down the hall as the main bullpen was otherwise quiet, when Grant walked in. Bobbi set the folders aside, dropping her feet as she swung into a standing position and flashed him a grin. "Ward! You ass! What have you been getting up to? I haven't seen you 'round here at all since I got back. Does the Director have you on missions? I've been back not a week and I've already got three separate assignments." She rolled her eyes, moving to give him a clap on the shoulder and a one armed hug if he allowed it.

"What have you been up to? I haven't seen you since.. fuck, what was it, France in '61?" She arched a brow as she spoke, grinning as she rocked her weight back onto her toes.

*

The man chuckles lightly and reaches up to adjust his tie. "I've been handling combat and field exercises for the last few months. I get field work now and again, but…" Ward grins a bit ruefully. "…It's like I barely get to see the light of day, anymore."

*

You want to know what's odd? Daisy is. Even more than a little bit odder was the fact that she could find anywhere to sleep. In the back of vans, in a chair. In a seat in a restaurant with her head down when she's safe and sound.. (hidden booth style).. so the bullpen was no exception.

Her choice was the desk that had no name, almost empty, backpack settled against the ground underneath it, tucked in the corner. Her jacket was used as a blanket, tugged up to her chin, the soft sound of snoring halted once she hears the voices. As she slowly opens her eyes, she draws the jacket down in a slight little huff, her fingers pressing against her eyes as she slowly rolls and begins to crawl from underneath the desk.

Yes. It was strange. Yes. It was clearly a fact that Daisy was effectively homeless. And yes. Someone's other sandwich was about to get stolen from the fridge.

*

The man chuckles lightly and reaches up to adjust his tie. "I've been handling combat and field excercises for the last few months. I get field work now and again, but…" Ward grins a bit ruefully. "…It's like I barely get to see the light of day, anymore." He turns to return the one-armed hug.

"France, yeah. We were pinned down outside of that chateau by those …what were they again? Cyborgs? Ninja? Ninja-cyborgs?" He shrugs and offers a lopsided grin. "Either way, it's good to have you back. Maybe the Director will shovel some of the combat training off to you now. Makes me feel bad beating up on these rookies everyday."

*

He hears the sound of movement and he arches an eyebrow, cocking his head to peer down and catch sight of the crawling Daisy.

"Johnson? That you?," he asks with a certain mixture of confusion and curiosity.

*

Bobbi grinned, leaning back and crossing her arms. "Nah, she has me tracking the elusive man that attacked her twice. Reds. Commies.. Russians, whatever you want to call it. Been a fuckin' head ache to go back and review /everything/ we've got on this ghost. Still no where closer to figurin' out why or how or any of those things. Especially 'cause we thought we'd cleared that whole shee-bang out." She rolled her blue eyes upwards and then glanced back in the corner where she heard snoring.

*

Ut.. ut.. Daisy was groggy enough that standing was a chore, and in such a cramp, tight space was already working on her back. She was young, she'll get over it, but damn did it smart. Once she was upon her feet, her arms stretch towards the ceiling, tilting left and right to work out a few kinks and pops until she finally gives focus to the two in the room. Old fixtures! Familiar faces! One that has her brightening up as she approaches them quietly. "Agent Ward! Agent Morse!" God.. they are a sight for sore eyes! "Evening! Morning..?" She glances around, then shrugs. She was just glad to see them!

*

Heather comes in like a very small whirlwind. She's impossible to pin down unless, apparently, you're the Director. She's always doing at least three things at once, clipboard in hand, pen behind her ear, usually with several files under one arm. She gives a quick smile to Bobbi and Grant on the way through, almost absently, then comes to a screeching halt when she sees Daisy.

"Are you all right, dear?" That's rather maternal for SHIELD, especially these days, but Heather sometimes forgets that this isn't the cozy little family of heroes she had in Canada. "Is it Daisy? And Bobbi, and Grant? I'm so sorry, I've been run off my feet, I haven't had a chance to talk. Does anyone need something from me?"

*

Grant ahs and nods to Bobbi. "Right. That." He brushes his fingers back through his hair before he turns his gaze back to Daisy. He smiles at her and slips his hands into the pockets of his slacks. "How is it going, Daisy? Looks rough." The man turns his gaze to Heather as she arrives, and he offers her a nod in greeting. "No, thanks. Just pulling a late nighter. Just finished up some paperwork. Grading the new arrivals on combat training."

*

A golden brow arched upwards as Bobbi glanced toward Daisy's waking person and a smile was offered toward the girl. "It's night, quite alright hon. We didn't mean to wake you. Though you really should find somewhere more comfortable to take a nap.." She ventured, and glanced toward Heather as the other woman entered.

With arms crossed, Bobbi offered another faint smile. "And here I thought I was the only one here so late. Silly me." She chuckled and looked back to Grant.

"We should get some beers at some point and chat, catch up and stuff, yeah?"

*

The small whirlwind was carefully watched by Daisy, her brows shooting high into the sky as the woman stops as soon as she's noticed. "Uh.. me?" She asks, looking around the room to make sure that she was the target of the questioning of her well-being, her hand lifting to point in the middle of her chest, lifting upon her bare feet and falling back upon the ground as she gives a 'too cool for school' smile. "Yeah! I'm great! Hour long nap does wonders!"

Daisy, unaware.. shrugs her shoulders towards Grant. "I just got back today. Long.. day. Speaking of, have any of you seen Chief Sousa?" She's asked at least one person, maybe the second one would know? Though she does frown a little towards her betters, the mentioning of naps had her looking back to the little cubby she made beneath her desk.

"I.. don't really have anywhere to stay right now." Her shoulders lift high, and soon she was preparing to step out into the hall for someone elses midnight snack.

*

"Usually I'm not here so late but I've had a problem with a shipping manifest. Or two. It's been a bad week." Heather scowls at her clipboard. Normally she wouldn't admit such a thing but it has been a bad week. The golden girl screws up, and all that. "Daisy, you need a place to stay? I'll see what I can do, don't go far. We'll get you settled." One more thing. One more thing Heather can fix.

*

Bobbi shifted on her toes, "Uhm Chief Sousa.." She dropped her voice low, "I think he quit or the Director fired him today.. He uhm.. he cleared out his desk this afternoon after there.. er.. was a fight it sounded like." She coughed lightly, and averted her gaze away from the Director's door.

"Why don't you have a place to stay?" Her brows pinched, "Is your paycheck fucked up or somethin'? I'll go with you to payroll if you need it." She offered, rolling her neck.

*

Hearing her name again, Daisy stops just short of the doorway, turning to lean against it. "Huh?! Really?" Sweet. She must be the Heather that Liv told her about. While she wanted to live in the Baxter building, she was so not going to disagree with whatever Heather cooked up. No way no how. And yet the one thing that really gets Daisy's goat is the news of Sousa.. she remains a little slack jawed at this new information, her lips snapping shut as she bounds right back into the room.

Not.. to like charge up Bobbi in a threatening manner of course! She does -not- want to get smacked.

"Uh..WHAT?!" He can't quit! Goddamn it! "Yuh.. WHHAT?!" Her arms were shot straight to the floor now, her fingers curled into a fist. "Fury? Where's Agent Fury?" He can fix it! But then again.. she has someone to calm down now.

"Well, Fury.." It's all his fault. "..Remember about ah.. a year and a half back he said he needed a few good Agents and I helpfully volunteered?" Uh huh. And she wiggles her hands, jazz-hands. "Surprise! First day back. I haven't even looked at my bank account yet and I'm sure my apartment is toast."

*

"Oh, God, I need to call Daniel, too," Heather mutters, then she gathers her wits. "I think we'll just call it a mutual parting of ways between SHIELD and Chief Sousa," she says firmly. "Though it's a loss for all of us to have him go. Some other agency will be fortunate to have him and the rest of us will just have to pull together." She turns her smile on Grant. "Especially our more senior agents. But, really, it's all-hands-on-deck right now."

"Daisy, if you want, you can come stay in my guest room until we find you a place. I'm in the Baxter Building and there's a bed in my study. I'm sure my…well, David, will be fine with that. He's scarce lately anyway."

*

Bobbi ran a hand through her hair, and groaned slightly under her breath. "Yeah, and we all know that the Director will be in a shit mood because of it. Seriously, she's what, seven or so months pregnant? Almost there and had a knock out screaming match with him today." She muttered, glancing over her shoulder.

"Do you realize how many creme puffs I had to bring her to get a conversation with her /after/ that meeting with the everyone over tha prison? I don't make enough to cover all the sweets I'll need for this.." She muttered, glancing back to Daisy.

*

Daisy, was.. quite frankly, floored. "A loss?" She asks Heather. "This is total bullshit." Yup, she totally said it. "Where does he live? In fact, I don't think you can just -fire- anyone over a goddamned fight. What happened to ethics!" Get the loner going, and she probably won't stop! Well.. until.. "Fine. I'll just need like.. a drawer or something. I don't have any clothes anymore.. " Pout. But then again, more news!

"Hol.. she's -WHAT-?!" Though, Daisy wasn't a senior agent, she was still a junior, but pregnant again? At her age! Good lort! (Yes, with a t.) She even lifts a finger, pointing at no one in particular.. she was at a total loss. "I..du.. gah!"

*

"Well, what Director Carter does with her reproductive choices is her own," Heather says, almost sternly. "We're very fortunate to be in a time and a place where women are here at all, much less serving while having children. It wasn't so long ago that we couldn't even keep our jobs if we married." Thank God Heather missed that era, she would have gone mad. "I'm sure Chief Sousa will be fine, but people will need to pick up some work that he did in order to keep SHIELD moving smoothly. It's good that you're back, Daisy. It'll be a big help to have you around. When I get in touch with the Chief, I'll let him know you were asking after him."

*

A sigh fell from Bobbi's lips and she shrugged, "I sure as hell don't want kids. Thank god, I don't have to worry about playing little Susie homemaker these days." She made a disgusted sound.

"More power to the Director for trying to balance that shit. I'm about as maternal as a pit viper." She rolled those baby blue eyes upwards, settling her hands on her hips.

"We're short on seasoned agents. We've supposedly got a few new ones shipping in sometime in the next day or so, transfers from other agencies. It'll be interesting to see how well they fit in.."

*

"No no no no.. I wasn't talking about whether or not she could ha-.." Daisy just quits while she was ahead. She embarrased herself enough as is. Instead of speaking on it more, she moves to a nearby chair, flopping down upon it to bury her face within her hands. No, she wasn't going to cry, but she was thinking of a way to get to the bottom of this, once and for all. At least she could help? Maybe save something? Or probably go out to get a drink.

"Well, I want in. I want to train to become a senior agent. I'm not going anywhere and.." Really, screwww kids right now! Or maybe forever! But there was a little grin that picks on her face. ".. I'm not going to discount kids just yet. I have to find a nice guy who wouldn't mind me not being at home."

*

"I'm sure we can put you on that track, Daisy," Heather says. She perches on the edge of a desk. "You all seem to know the people here better than I do. I've come in from Canada and Peggy just hired me on to take some of the pressure off her — not that it seems to be doing much good. Does this all feel par for the course? Chief Sousa quitting aside, that could just be a glitch in the system, is everything…have things been like this before?"

*

A tilt of her head followed and Bobbi seemed to take a long moment to think about it. "Before? Russians and Nazis, yeah that was standard. Counter inteligence within and without the system… Issues within? Yeah that's par for the course. What's not normal? The Director freaking out over the fact that we have to deal with Aliens, people who are Gods, and the murder of the president?.. Yeah, that's all new." She sighed, a grimace pulling at her lips.

"I've been in Germany for the last year or so working with the agents on the ground in regards to that whole.. Russian owning half of the capital bit.."

*

Daisy nods. But then she shakes her head. "It.. doesn't honestly." She glances towards Grant, then towards Bobbi, acknowledging the elders words. Her hands fold about her chest as she leans back within the chair at a slump, swaying it side to side in a means of comfort. "I've been gone for the past year and a half overseas too. Most of my time here was spent training with Agent Ward until I left.. I've never felt this place so.. cold like this before. There was always a smile at least somewhere.."

*

"That's what I thought. I spent twelve years as second-in-command to my husband, in a unit for people with enhanced abilities up in Canada," Heather says, as though she's saying she spent this time working the cosmetics counter at Sears. "We kept a low profile, mostly working in our own country. We were nowhere near this size, but it was…we were close. Even within out parent department, people were tight. You can't do this work without that bond with other people and there's been a kind of chilling effect that worries me. I just want you to know — you can come to me if you need something or if you need to talk, yeah? This isn't my first gun show, so to speak."

*

An exhale follows as Bobbi leaned back on her heels, "Well, start by callin' me Bobbi, yeah? No need for Agent Morse. It's what the Director calls me when she has a mission she wants done." She smiled and it was warm and welcoming. Perhaps more than it had been before.

"If you trained with Ward you'll fit in just fine, don't sweat the small stuff, hon." She settled into a chair, pulling it over from another desk as she plopped herself down.

"I'm not the best person for talking to for advice, utterly rotten at it. But hey, if you want an ear to rant, when I'm actually here, you're more than welcome to join me for food or talkin' my ear off. Promise."

*

Just listening to those two, even if she were still baffled by the state of things truly does give her pause. There was that old feeling back; the feeling of a familial support that Daisy had but.. it wasn't authentic. Not like this. She often wondered if her foster parents really did love her, even though they were mostly, somewhat active in her life. This was actually heart warming.

"I'll.. try.." She says to both of the women. A little smile touching her cheeks. She does smack her hands against her thighs, then pushes herself to her feet with a grunt. "And thank you.. Heather?" She asks, at least to make sure that was -really- her name. "And Bobbi. Really. I mean that."

*

"I'll tell the concierge at the Baxter Building that you'll be staying with me, Daisy," Heather tells Daisy. "He'll see that you have a key. And I'll warn David so you don't startle him. He's an investigator and operative and it's never good to catch him off-guard. There's always food in the fridge, you can eat whatever you find — I bake when I'm stressed so we're drowning in cakes and cupcakes and pies right now. And, Bobbi, you, Grant, and of the other agents are welcome if you need anything. If I can't help you, I guarantee you that David can. There's not much we can't fix between us."

Heather looks around, then smiles in spite of how unnerving it is that they all feel the same cold, grim atmosphere creeping in. "I am looking forward to the team expanding. I love getting new people in. It's exciting. We'll get back on track so we can have fun and kick some ass, I promise."

*

Bobbi grinned, settling back on the legs of the chair, tipping it backwards and settling her legs on the desk. Who's ever it was. Likely one of the Barton's.

"I'll always take sweets, Heather." Her voice light as she glanced back to Daisy and offered the girl a finger gun salute.

"I'll take you down the shooting range if it makes you feel better. Always helps me to work out the kinks and focus on something that's just a straight point and shoot. Nothing to worry that head but takes all your concentration."

*

"Okay then." Daisy murmurs, finally standing upright. She moves towards the corner, dropping to her hands and knees to crawl beneath the desk, gathering her things within her back, bumping her head a touch as she manuvers in such a way that would make it easier for her to get her shoes on. Once she was done, she slithers out, dragging her bookbag to sling upon her back as she draws in a breath, then exhale.

"So, gun range. Training. We're going to do this after I eat all the damn cakes in the house." And.. instead of saying goodbye, she pretty much rushes on out. There were.. uh.. things to do. People to try to track down and yell at.
