The warehouse is particularly busy today. A long line outside the door has people slowly shuffling into the building with loud echoey music that speaks to a level of dark and angry. At the front of the line, Jessica Jones has her hands shoved deep into the pockets of her leather jacket.

When people finally make it inside, it seems like much ado about nothing. A bunch of people stand around save for a few who linger at the edges who are dressed in black robes.

When she gets inside, Jessica shakes her head and reaches into her pocket, extracting a single set of purple ear muffs. She lingers at the room's edge, allowing her weight to shuffle from one foot to the other in the kind of annoyance characterized by someone already on the take, and too-aware of what they intend to do. Her eyes roll dramatically and her cheeks puff out irritably.

While Pepper had a regular 'dealer' for the things she needed, and she was trying to ween off the stuff, the mystery of what Vigor *was*, who supplied it, and everything else? It was still a mystery. She'd done what little leg work she could, listening to whispers on the street, getting what rumors she could. That meant that tonight she's found herself in a place she never expected. Going to one of those Nightmare parties, in a line of people whom all seem far younger than she, but maybe that's just the type of crowd that attends these things. She's trying to blend in, so she's in a bright red mini-skirt and a black shirt which bares some of her flat stomach and shoulders. She's got her hair up in the highest of BUMPS, tucked into a barrett behind it, and curls down her back. She's put on enough make up to hide how thin her features have gotten and make her look just a bit younger than she is. Lastly, she's chewing gum, the ultimate teenie bopper and teenager camoflague. She goes forward, nodding towards the bouncer and those strange people in black robes as she enters. Odd. Her wide, blue eyes drink in the whole room rather nervously.

When he's on patrol, the vigilante known as Spider-Man is often more of a reactive fellow. He makes those long languid swings from one building to another, flipping into the air and catching a bit of a glide for a time before lashing out with another web line to arrest his fall. It's just a steady pace, keeping an eye out, his ear to the ground as it were trying to get an angle on the 'feel' of the city. Sometimes it's a scream that draws his attention, other times it's the tell-tale jangle of his spider-sense in the back of his mind…

Tonight, however, it's weird traffic. Activity in a part of the town that doesn't usually get so much this time of night and… heading towards that particular warehouse. It's enough to get him to change the course of his next swing to an arching turn, flipping off of the line and landing upon the edge of a billboard, dashing across its side and then flipping over the top to perch upside down and cast his gaze down through one of the windows ideally. The mirrored lenses of his mask reflect back the tableau, showing… robes, and people… and shuffling. Hnh.

*

Josh can do dark and angry lately: in fact it almost perfectly matches his mood. So he's here just to party, really, waiting in line and letting it inch along until its his turn to head inside. Dressed in a pair of jeans and bright yellow t-shirt, the All American Blond Dude gets some attention by way of flirting in line, and he very, very idly pays said attention back. But he's not expecting trouble and not really here to save/rescue/kill anyone, so its a night off on the town for one Elixir.

*

Jessica tugs the ear muffs over her ears, grumbling about visions, insight, and general mayhem. While she knows little about what happened at the last nightmare party despite being in attendance, she takes the sage wisdom at its word, opting to block the sound as she eyes the area. Things seem as they did last time.

Teens bump against one another as they enter the space and fill in the gaps between one another. Slowly, but surely, the high schoolers — who Jessica swears look younger every year — fill the spaces. Those in the black robes stand looking onward, reaching awaiting whatever ritual seems to bind this place together.

One of the fellows in the back reaches into his robe, a slow move so as not to draw attention, and he extracts vial of fluid. The markings on the bottle — for those with particularly good vision or good position — are blue, a very obvious call. While he doesn't take the drug yet, it's clear he's positioned to do so.

At the front of the room, the lights change on the stage. Where things had been in an array of white light spilling and drawing attention to the stage, they turn purple, a kind of odd backdrop that something is changing. A person, dressed in a black cloak with a white face steps onto stage and the music changes. Some applaud. Others gasp. Those closest to him seem rapt with attention as their eyes widen.

For those who pay attention to the news, a familiar dark haired woman walks up to the stage wearing an all-too-smart white pant suit. Vanessa Fisk, without any entourage, has a finger lifted to pointedly speak to the man.

*

The moment Pepper sees Vanessa, her eyes widen. She knows the woman, not intimately, but good enough she'd call them friends. She pushes through the crowd, about to move closer, and then she realizes the woman is actually talking to the man on the stage. What in the world? Pepper curses beneath her breath, partially hoping she's dressed too strangely or is too drowning in the crowd not to be noticed by her sometimes friend. She does, however, sneak closer to the stage. She wants to see what is going on and, if she's lucky, actually hear what is being said. She can't quite read lips, but she can read body language. Her pale eyes stay focused on the pair, studying everything she can from her place in the crowd.

*

One of the eyelets of his mask gets wider than the other as from Spider-Man's perch he can catch the shift in colors, perhaps a bit of the stage, the shift and flux of the crowd. He can tell the electrical vibe that flits through the crowd, the change in body language that makes them focus further on the stage. It conveys a message of intensity, but to Spider-Man it also conveys the idea that he really needs to get a better angle on this.

A staggering leap carries him across the distance and he lands on the side of the warehouse, climbing along the rooftop edge and moving towards hopefully a better point of view. He murmurs to himself quietly, "Probably not a big deal. One of those freak outs probably. Or super freak outs?" He knits his brow as he crawls along, then peeks his head up over the edge to peer inside. "See. I'm hip. I'm 'with' it."

*

Teenagers. Josh was hoping for a crowd with a bit of a bigger mix of ages: specifically, someone who he could make out with without seriously checking the fake ID. Alas. Still, there's noise and he's into it, so he heads further in, his eyes falling upon the drug. Having not really followed the Vigor situation, he's not really sure if this is the latest in a designer high or something nefarious, so he just sort of watches.

*

A bloodcurdling scream is emitted into the room from the front of the stage. The buzz in the energy continues to change, and like an odd wave, terror spans from the front towards the back. Images become writ across those closest to the stage. Their minds become occupied with some of their stanchest nightmares — moments of sheer terror that grace their bodies and minds. The weight of the fear cause some knees to buckle. A girl in the front collapses into a terrified mess of tears.

Getting closer to the figure at the front has a similar effect on anyone wishing some semblance of proximity. Yet the clawing and desperation doesn't seem to consume Vanessa Fisk as she closes the distance between herself and the man. Instead, the brunette treads up to the other figure. "This madness needs to stop," she asserts. Her finger waggles with each syllable, pointing emphatically to draw the man's attention to what she says. "It's finished. As we discussed you have no reason to continue down this path. Enough." Her voice is too loud though — far too loud for the distance to the man. It's possible she's yelling over the music or she's yelling over something else.

Jessica's chin lifts as she sees things happening on stage. Her jaw tightens and she shakes her head. At the back of the room, she's not likely to make it on time before the inevitable from Lynette's vision.

And so, with one shake of her head, she begins to push her way through the crowd, bumping people as she goes about her activity. But in doing so, she jostles at least one terrified teen who takes a swing at her and who attempts to throw a punch in her direction.

Similarly, interactions with others have much the same effect. The adrenaline in the room has been amped substantially, and as people in a haunted house, the tension builds. Those in the back of the room, however, all lift the vials to their lips, readying themselves for whatever is ahead…

*

As Pepper catches the words that Vanessa is saying — they were strangely loud, even in the crowd — her faith in the woman is simply reinforced. Maybe she was here to stop this nonsense as well. Clearly she was! The redhead tries to seize forward, to catch the attention of her old friend, maybe even to offer help, but the chaos is already breaking out around her. Teenagers are going half insane, thrashing, punching. She just barely manages to duck a swing in her direction. She hadn't planned on using one of her last doses of vigor, but she may need to as well just to help get control of the scene. So, she reaches into her pocket and pulls out her own little vial, knocking back the single blue pill she waited so long to take today. It wouldn't work immediate for her, but at least she'd have a chance of warding people off of her in a few minutes. She curses as she gets shoved into a few other teenagers, she giving a quick apology, but when she picks herself up, the person on the ground before her seems dead. Very, very dead. Like she shoved him onto something horribly dangerous, or he was shot from elsewhere. She just sees blood and a body. "…No… nonono…" Pepper breathes out, stumbling backwards in a panic, closer to the stage.

*

"This…" Spider-Man's voice is quiet as he perhaps catches himself from speaking any further. But it's clear that he's finding 'this' to be pretty weird. He looks back towards the streets, the city itself, then back towards the warehouse. A shake of his head is given. Now if it was a mugger, or a burglar, something he could handle himself he'd handle it. But this could be bad, and messy, and probably will need some crowd control.

Flipping off the wall he lands light upon the top of one of the shadier phone booths in the neighborhood, flips upside down and reaches in, then dials '0' real quick as he tucks the receiver under his chin.

From the sidewalk, hidden next to a stoop, a homeless man pipes up. "Hey you… you buddy. Spare some change?"

"One sec, fella. Yeah. Hi. I was walking down the street and there's this warehouse on 34th, near the river… yeah. I think there's some sort of big party going down but also there's a lot of smoke might be a fire. But yeah. Illegal probably or something. Probably those darn hippies. Exactly. Thanks, officer."

*click*

The homeless man pipes up again as he pushes himself to his feet, "Liar. You didn't walk no where. Yer shpider-man."

"Oh hey, yeah I am. You recognized me? That's… kinda great." Spidey perks up a bit, for once getting some non-negative recogni…

"Freaking menace."

A sigh comes from Spider-Man, then a /thwip/ and he flips back up towards the wall to try and get into the warehouse shortly in case things take a turn for the worse.

*

Josh was out for a night on the town, just out to like, relax, you know? Maybe hate dance, maybe anger screw if he found someone willing, and here, he ends up in what amounts to a giant mosh pit. Suddenly he's shoved, and then a punch takes him in the gut: he grunts, "Hey, you don't want to mess with me, kid."

"Mutant freak." hisses the kid, glaring hatefully at Josh. Only.. the kid didn't actually say that, but it doesn't change the fact that Josh heard and saw it. His expression darkens, "I'm warning you, back off." What the kid hears is anyone's guess, but he's shoving Josh again. Reaching out, Josh lays a hand on the kid, and two things happen. First, Josh's skin turns completely, metallic black: and two, the kid screams and falls to the ground, twitching. But he's alive at least.

*

With the distance between them substantially decreased, the male figure on the stage reaches out towards Vanessa. His hand stretches around her throat and he begins to squeeze. She pales underneath the sheer strength of the hold.

In the back of the room, those in robes are already reaching for those in the crowd most incapacitated from the nightmares themselves. One of them, with his iridescent blue eyes nabs a girl's shoulder, tugging her backwards as if she weighed nothing. He reaches for another teen's shoulder and drags him in like ilk. It's quite clear something is going incredibly wrong.

Jessica ducks and dodges punches as she tries to make her way to the front of the room. But there's no way she's going to make it in time, not when the figure's hand is already wrapped around Mrs. Fisk's neck. She pushes hard only to get pushed back. And then, out of nowhere, one of the robed figures — a waif blonde — approaches her with palms lifted. Flames emit from the woman's hands, prompting Jones to hit the deck. This is not what she had in mind. "Fuck!"

*

While Pepper is fighting the nightmares in her head, the dead man at her feet, there is nothing she can doo about the man and the pool of blood. Her *friend* is in trouble on the stage. So, the redhead dashes forward, over the body that only she can see, fortunately not slipping in imaginary blood. She scrambles to the stage, mentally begging that the Vigor has taken enough effect already that her voice can already hold sway over someone. She can only hope, it's her last thought of what to try. "STOP IT NOW! GET YOUR HANDS OFF OF HER!" She commands loudly, her scantily clad form trying to climb up on the stage, tossing herself even closer to the danger, but at least she'll give Vanessa someone else on the woman's side.

Suddenly Spider-Man's back at his vantage point and… it's impressive how badly things can go in so short of a time. There's no longer any time for hesitation even as the wall-crawler's instincts are kicking in. He's leaping, the world seeming to slow down around him as his eyes widen and he takes in the situation. Scuffles, starts of brawls, shoving, punching. But the thing that draws Spider-Man's attention like the crack of a whip is the man holding the woman by the throat… and squeezing.

The world narrows and there's a /thwip/ that's probably unheard as a red and blue blur flits through the air above the crowd, just a slash of motion and color as the vigilante swings in, down, and then tries to land a double kick straight to the forehead of Vanessa's assailant, already flipping up and away to land against the wall supported by fingertips and feet as he snaps out, "Hands off the lady, sunshine."

*

All around him, everyone is pointing and calling him a freak and a monster, while black-skinned Josh rather feels it right about now. Of course, in truth, that he dropped the kid and turned into a shiny black golem as most nearest to him sorta freaking out, but sweat beads at his forehead and he lifts his hands, clear sign of threat in his features, "Get away from me, if I'm a monster its because you people made me one." he hisses through clenched teeth.

*

D'Spayre is launched backwards when Spidey lands a kick to his forehead, and Vanessa is laid on the ground coughing and gasping for breath in an effort to find some semblance of self again. She grips at her now bruised neck, complete with a sharp array of fingers bruised into her skin. She lifts her head and catches Pepper's gaze. Alarm registers across all of Vanessa's features, but she grasps towards Pepper for the other woman's hand. Some semblance of support would be helpful. "Miss Potts!" Her voice is far too loud.

At this distance, D'Spayre reaches into Spider-man's consciousness in an effort to draw out his most feared dreams. He tugs at each corner to manifest whatever Spidey fears.

Jessica grabs at fire girl's ankles, causing the other woman to collapse to the floor. But another fan of flames emits from the girl's palms, prompting Jones to jump back again. Yet with a sharp inhale of breath, Jessica falls to the ground and grabs the other woman's foot. And with a small shake of her head, Jess throws the other woman into the crowd before turning back to the stage, relieved to see Vanessa Fisk alive upon it.

Her gaze shifts to Spidey and with a sharp shake of her head and a few mumbled obscenities, she tugs the ear muffs from her ears and throws them towards Peter, yelling, "Put them on your ears!!!!"

Meanwhile, one of the robed figures has come upon Spidey and issues a sharp kick of his own towards the other man. Super strength comes against the body.

Josh can feel the fellow that had picked up two other folks touch his shoulder. And as he does so, Josh can sense the altered state of the fellow. The drugs have amped the fellow up.

*

As Spiderman swoops in, Pepper immediately goes to her knees near Vanessa, trying to catch the woman before she's actually hurt by the breaking apart. "I'm here, Vanessa, it… it'll be fine. I'm here to help." She insists, her voice still with that strange power behind it, growing stronger as the time carries on and the Vigor gets deeper into her blood. It also means she's not shaking any more, not near so overwhelmed. It's like she can handle the whole world like this, so she doesn't immediately freak out at Vanessa Fisk seein gher like this. She reaches down, trying to help the other woman up and out of the way of the robed figure who now seems in a half fight, "Don't you DARE come near her again." Pepper's first command didn't really work, but maybe the drug hadn't taken deep enough effect? At least she can try again.

The change in Spider-Man's demeanour is palpable as he drops from the wall and lands in a faint crouch, one hand holding him up partially as he looks towards D'Spayre with wide eyelets and a turn of his head. His breath catches and suddenly the man on the stage in the robe isn't this cult leaderish fellow. Instead he's an old man, clutching at his chest and gasping raggedly as a fount of blood bursts forth and pours down the side of his mouth.

In the red and blue vigilante's mind he hears the voice of his Uncle crying a single ragged word, forlorn and filled with woe as well as accusation. "Peter..?" Then the man collapses before him. It causes a shock in Spider-Man, causing him to rush forwards three quick strides as he tries to catch the phantom falling man…

Out of the corner of his vision something comes hurtling at him. It's pure spider-instinct that has him catch them, to hold the ear muffs in one hand as he looks with horror at the father figure of his life… and then looks towards the ear apparel in his hand with this utter look of confusion.

*

Surrounded by folks cursing his ever birth, Josh looks both furious and distraut, and then someone is touching him! He spins on the drugged fellow, reaching out threateningly he seeks to lay hand on the guy and just drop him. He might be on drugs but Josh figures if you're unconscious maybe you don't bother him. At least he's not giving into a more murderous impulse that the Brotherhood has been sorta instilling in him.

*

Vanessa latches onto Pepper, linking arms with the other woman as she still tries to catch her breath. She's easily drawn away. One set of fingers continues to be holding her throat, trying to protect her very bruised windpipe. She struggles to stay vertical, but latches tightly onto Pepper. She needs that level of protection.

The command to D'Spayre, however, doesn't deter him. "You insolent woman," his voice, teeming with anger echoes back towards the pair. It's timber cuts into the noise, bearing with it the hollowness of strange anger and voice. He steps back towards them, straightening as he moves. His large forbodeing steps close the distance and he reaches towards them again.

The robed lackey lunges towards Spiderman, and Jessica yells loudly, trying to cut through Peter's nightmare, "PUT ON THE FUCKING EAR MUFFS SPIDER-FREAK!" But even as she yells, Jess can feel sharp rush of wind around her. Her head shakes. "Fucking Vigor," she mutters to herself as she lunges at the latest robed figure trying to take her out.

The guy drops easily underneath Josh's influence. His body becomes unconscious, empty, and altogether absent. He has, oficially, checked out of the building.

*

Whether it's a healthy impulse or not, Pepper has enough vigor going through her veins and loyalty to her friends that she's now directly playing her body between Vanessa Fisk and the man coming after her. "Just stay back, please, it'll be okay." She reassures the woman, and even those words are like some sort of balm, the power behind them further reinforcing their reassurance, even as Pepper doesn't know it will be true. She has no real clue what is going on, but she's catching the sight of more powered people out of the corner of her eyes. If she can keep the man distracted long enough for those people who can *actually do something* to break in here, maybe they'd all get out alive. Meanwhile, the floor beneath her has grown bloody. Vanessa's arm in her grasp is bloody. There is blood everywhere, like the night with the vampires so long ago, but Pepper is doing her best to fight through. "I told you, get the f*ck away from her!" Pepper hisses out one last time, desperately.

The imagery before him is intimidating, Spider-Man's already murmuring quiet apologies under his breath as he reaches out to the hallucinatory Uncle Ben. He almost even throws the ear muffs away out of annoyance, but then a voice audibly breaks through the glamour and assaults him with the shrill harshness of a Jessica Jones shower ballad.

As quick as that he seems to remember the flow of time, where he is, was, what'd been happening. And those words get through to him so he quickly dons the ear muffs over his ears fast as possible. And like the lowering of a curtain, the scene shifts back to the wild chaotic mayhem that it's supposed to be. Not the soul-rending torture of what it had been.

He only takes a few moments to blink back and forth, then points at JJ, "Language." Before suddenly… /he's moving./

A leap to the side, rebounding off the wall, flipping and leaping off the side of the podium, it gives Spidey an arc of movement that has him flipping back up and over D'Spayre up towards the ceiling and /THWIP!-THWIP!/ two globs of webbing are fired right at the mind-controller's face… and mouth in particular.

*

She wasn't yelling at him, but Josh heard about this whole ear muffs thing, so he does the next best thing. Or maybe the most best thing. He simply disables the nerves between his ears and his brain. Who needs those? The dance floor plunges into silence and mayham. And immediately he finds he's not right in the middle of a crowd that is shouting at him. Mostly he's maybe not being paid a lot of attention to: being all black golem is usually fairly intimidating, but considering its dark in here, it actually tends to make him blend. So he goes over to the nearest person who is freaking out and lays hands, proceeding to turn off *his* hearing— this time making a point to make it more like a pinched nerve. It'll heal on its own in time, in case Josh can't find the fellow.

*

D'Spayre cackles at Pepper's command, even if Vanessa finds some semblance of solace in the words she can pick up. "Good effort, lady. Missus Fisk will — " and then his mouth is gagged by webbing. The stitches across his face have him pulling at the seal over his lips, trying to release it madly.

Jessica shoots into the sky and dive bombs the fellow who was using the wind against her. She pushes him hard against the side of the warehouse, knocking him out against it and knocking him out. She straightens and twists to face Spiderman, "You're fucking welcome! It's called English," she mutters. "Maybe you forgot how to use it thanks to spider-speak."

Josh easily cuts off the fellows hearing and the young man rubs his eyes. He rubs his face, and relief colours his expression. While he can't hear anything, he's somehow far more satisfied with not hearing than seeing his worst nightmare.

*

Pepper's just trying to stumble back, away from the dangerous, black robed man, away from the pooling blood that she sees on the stage, awway from everything. But she's not letting Vanessa go. She stepped in to help and now she's determined to do that. "S-stop… please, please stop…" It's not meant to be so much a command as a plea, but what gifts the Vigor grants her don't really determine between such things. Still, as the man's mouth is caught, she turns to Vanessa and tries to usher her quicker off of the stage. Seeing the woman quite dead in her arms wasn't what she expected, however, Pepper yelping in shock and panic, "N-no…Vanessa, no… Wilson needs you… come on, just… Just breathe…" Of course, that's just the nightmare in her own head. But it's impossible for her to tell the difference right now.

Pepper has partially disconnected.

Leaping off the wall and caroming straight at D'Spayre, Spider-Man sweeps the ground under the villainous telepath's feet, trying to take his legs out from under him and then if possible anchor him down with a double-fisted splay-fingered spraying of web over each of the man's limbs, trying to bind him in place. And if that seems to do the trick, then he turns around to scan the room quickly, trying to identify the hot spots before he's moving again.

But, of course, none of that precludes a few words tossed Ms. Jones' way. "You hang out at biker bars and tattoo shops don't you?" Another leap over the crowd and he /yoinks/ apart two brawlers, trying to get them separated before their scuffle turns all the worse.

*

Seeing how this works, Josh proceeds to take his black and blond haired self around the room, laying his hands on one after another person. He hasn't figured out who/what is causing this, but clearly its sound based, and he can help with that. As he nears the front, he notices Pepper is among those having issues and tries to repeat the deafening trick on her. Assuming she doesn't dodge.

*

Dizzily Vanessa tilts her head at Pepper. "I," her voice scratches as she's moving away from D'Spayre with Pepper, "am okay." She reaches out towards Pepper.

The man on the stage collapses underneath the webbing. He falls over, latched to the world at large. And wriggling despite the webbing. It's fortunate that Jessica manages to move away from the wind fellow. She stands in front of the other man and she says blandly, "Where are the kids? Where the fuck are you keeping them?" Her chin lifts and she glances at Spidey, "Bite my ass."

Three more black robed people linger at the back of the room, and one, much like Spidey, climbs the wall. No web shooters, fortunately, but he seems to exhibit similar characteristics to Spidey himself.

The room receives relief from Josh's efforts. One by one he seems to help get these people out of a fog. They find some semblance of reality again thanks to his touch and influence.

*

Sure enough, Josh's influence over Pepper works just as well as it does on the rest of the room. Or, well enough that Pepper suddenly isn't seeing a very dead Vanessa Fisk in her grasp, but she cannot actually HEAR the woman's reassurances that she is alright. She can see Vanessa's lips moving, however, her brows furrowing as she shakes her head and points her free hand to her ear. At least the woman is alive. Some of the panic leaves Pepper's features as she raggedly breathes out. "We…we should get out of here. They've got him. They're handling this. It's not safe." She murmurs, still trying to usher the woman off the stage, even if her words come out a bit strange for not being able to hear herself speak.

*

The black robes equals bad. Probably. Got it. Spider-Man's still moving about the room in a blur, landing upon a shoulder and leaping off of it, leaving the person yoinked out of the way. Some of the more violent ones are attached to the ceiling by a strand of webbing, and others are simply pulled out of proximity from whatever momentary terror they may be facing. But then Spider-Man lands on the wall counter corner to the fellow who is climbing on the walls.

"Hey. Dosing these kidses mary jane is dirty. But that right there is copyright infringement. How low can you go?" He offers even as he's leaping towards the climbing robed wall-crawler, seeking to grab him by the scruff of the neck and pull him forwards sharply, perhaps revealing the fall of the hood as he does so to at least get a look at one of these guys.

*

For his part, Josh nods to people as he reaches to them: look, don't be intimidated! Here, touch. By the time he gets through quite a few, he has a wake up calmness behind him, but begins getting weary. He doesn't have an infinite supply of biokinetics and pinching specific nerves is a little complicated, but still. He yawns. "This was supposed to be my day off." he mutely complains to the latest person he deafened.

*

Vanessa nods at Pepper and in short order, the pair have made a hasty exit. Spider-man lays waste to each of the robed figures still standing around the room. And in short order, things turn around.

Sirens can be heard nearing the building. And for the first time in a long time, Jessica Jones sits at the edge of the stage.

She reaches into her coat pocket and extracts a cigarette that she lights.

She's going to talk to the police.

She's going to need a lawyer.
