Tonight the Black Cat is filled to the brim, as regular and quite a few newcomers made their way to witness the sensational show put on by Dazzler. The young New York based rocker with breathtaking light shows, that has been popping up in the headlines quite a bit. While Dazzler offered no input about the W-ILD TV incident from a week ago, she did put on quite a show, lighting up the club with a kaleidoscopic display of dancing lights. With her set down, she took a 10 minutes break before walking out to the floor, as she usually does post shows.
*
Carol is currently leaning against the bar, dressed rather casually as she has what looks like a plain Coke on ice in front of her. She seems to almost bask in the lights, though now that the shows on a break she hums a catchy tune under her breath, lips quirking in an absent smile as she looks like she's just enjoying being out on her own for the evening.
*
Though Brian's musical tastes don't generally tend to rock and roll, but here he is anyway. He's dressed in a dark suit, complete with hat, though of course he's not wearing it inside. Likely he looks well out of place among the kids and casually-dressed folks.
*
Dazzler is dressed aptly for her name, a dazzling beaded halter dress with mirror fragments woven amidst the beads, it glimmers and reflects light readily, drawing quite a bit of attention to Dazzler as she moves about towards Brian. Out of curiosity more than anything else, "don't tell me you're here for my show?" She asks as she comes close enough to be heard, eyes casually shifting towards Carol, noting the tall woman as she stands out quite a bit herself.
*
Carol blinks, and grins over at Dazzler as she notices the eyes shifting. She raises her Coke to the singer, then glances over at Brian, appraising the man with a curious expression herself, though she doesn't try to say anything just yet in the rather smoky and noisy club.
*
Brian rises as the sparkling lady approaches and appears as if she will speak to him, this perhaps a little old-fashioned. "Good evening." he greets Dazzler with a smile. "I am, actually. I've heard a lot about you and I thought I should see for myself what the fuss was about. I can see why people are impressed, both for the music and the light show. Very impressive." He notices Carol's look and he nods to the tall lady as well.
*
"Does that have alcohol in it?" Dazzler asks Carol as she raises her drink, before shifting her attention back to Brian, "you heard about it and didn't think I'm a devil worshiper? You actually cared to see and hear for yourself? I admire people like you, I'm Dazzler," she states the obvious while extending her hand towards Brian, "glad to know there still sensible people like you out there."
*
Carol grins and steps over, catching what Dazzler said, "Actually, no. I don't drink." She shrugs a bit, "Personal preference. And I have to say, your performance was amazing." She looks back to Brian and gives him a friendly nod, setting her glass down as she relocates to be in conversational distance.
*
"You don't seem to be a devil-worshiper." Brian says with a gentle laugh as he takes her hand. He squeezes it gently and carefully. He's strong, after all. Brian sits again. "Care to join me?" he asks, looking between Carol and the star, but of course he imagines Dazzler won't accept. "There's nothing terrible about what you're singing. I admit that I prefer something like Jack Hylton."
*
"Thank you," Dazzler says to Carol with a big grin on her face, always happy to receive compliments. But she looks quite surprised at Carol admitting to not drinking alcohol, a puzzled expression taking over her face as she asks, "why?" As if Carol was doing something particularly otherworldly. She nods at Brian's assessment of her, "you got me! Wish the editors on the Bugle would see that too." At the invitation, Dazzler actually surprises as she slips to a sit next to Brian, "gladly…as you might tell from my sound, I'm into trying new things. Not everyone likes my music, but that doesn't mean I'm a devil worshiper, also…most people enjoy my light show. No different from taking LSD, really. And who doesn't appreciate a bit of mind expanding fun."
*
Carol smiles faintly, "Because I like it too much." She looks a touch uncomfortable, then smiles as the conversation shifts to music, "Well, I love some good jazz, even saw Del Paxton perform near the base I was stationed at, back when I was active." She grins at Dazzler, "Personally, I love the new rock and roll beats out there, it's catchy. Lots of fun." She then looks over at Brian, "And if you don't mind…" With that, she takes a seat on the other side of Brian.
*
"I generally don't partake of recreational mind-expansion, it's never done anything for me." Brian admits in his upper-class British accent. He smiles winningly as Carol sits. "Forgive my manners, I am Brian Falsworth. A pleasure to meet you both." He looks back to Carol as she mentions being active at a base. "Hmm. What did you do in the…" he pauses. "… the American military, I suppose?" There's no hint of disdain for the American military, though.
*
"Oh," Dazzler quips, caught a bit off guard at the thought of not having anything when you like it too much, but then she's young and been on her own for most of her life. Alcoholism isn't something she considers as a problem. She does cheer up considerably when music is discussed, "jazz is pretty cool, admittedly, I'm not good enough on the guitar to really excel at jazz."
When Brian mentions he never partakes of recreational mind-expansion, Dazzler scoffs, "you don't know what you're missing out on, friend, it's a window to the universe I tell you." When Brian guesses at what Carol does, Dazzler just looks stunned, more or less staring at Carol admirably. Women in the military is not something she thought was possible. Maybe that's what makes Carol stand out as she does?
*
Carol grins at Brian, "Carol Danvers. I was a pilot in the Air Force, though I do still fly on occasion." Though now she tends to not need the jet, not that she'll be mentioning to these two. "Never served in combat duty, thanks to regulations, but still did put in my flying time." She grins at Dazzler, "And I'm not really good with music at all… you do /not/ want to hear me sing."
*
"Possibly, possibly." Brian agrees. "I've just never really enjoyed anything more than a good brandy once in a while." He smiles, though. "Far be it from me to refuse people their enjoyment, though." A nod to Carol. "A pleasure to meet you. 'Air Force', ah. Good for you. A test pilot, then? I've flown a few fighters myself - Scimitars, Hawker Hunters, and the like. I'm interested in these new Lightnings, too."
*
"Wow! A pilot!" Dazzler certainly seems taken with the thought of flying through the air, she makes a good show for someone who actually tried the feat in secret. "It's the best feeling in the world, isn't it? How did they let you join the Air Force?" Dazzler asks with enthusiasm, "I thought they don't let women even apply…or do they?" There's always hope that things might be getting better. She laughs as Carol mentions her skill with music, "I guess we'll leave the singing to me and the flying to you, huh?" She then looks over at Brian and blinks, "you're both air force?" She considers Brian's age, or at least estimates, and asks, "did you fight in the great war?"
*
Carol nods, "I enrolled in the Academy when I got out of high school." She grins over at Dazzler, "But, it's getting a bit late for me, so I should probably give you all a rain check." She smiles a bit wider at both Dazzler and Brian, finishing her drink as she prepares to go.
*
"I suppose it wouldn't be fair to say I was in the Royal Air Force, I was more on detached duty, but I did have the opportunity to fly some fighters here and there." Brian says. He only looks in his late twenties, perhaps his early thirties. "'The Great War?'" he asks, amused? "What you Yanks call 'World War One'? No. I did a bit of training to get ready for Korea, but the war ended before I was sent over there." he explains. Most of that is a lie, but he's good at lying.
*
Some younger people like Dazzler tend to skew age estimation, and those who bailed on high school like Dazzler, are a bit off on their history and terms. She heard stuff, she knows about the Nazis, but not quite in academic terms. "Oh…so, how was war in Korea?" She asks sheepishly, feeling a bit out of her depth in this specific discussion.
*
Brian shrugs. "War is hell, hopefully this mess in Indochina will be cleared up quickly so that a lot of our boys don't get sent over there." He avoids talk of Korea and tries to change the subject. "Will you be performing at some large venues? Have you been on any television shows?"
*
Dazzler takes the cue from Brian and doesn't press the issue, she just nods respectfully before looking a bit pained at the mention of television show. No doubt the traumatic experience with Mojo's W-ILD TV and her unscheduled appearance on one of his shows isn't sitting well with her. "I'm hoping to get a chance to be on Ed Sullivan's soon…my agent tells me there's been rumors I might be getting a call, so fingers crossed!" She holds up her crossed fingers and smiles optimistically.
*
"I wish there was something I could do to help." Brian replies. "I don't have access to those sorts of strings to pull, sadly." He nods, though. "I'll hope for you too." and he holds up his crossed fingers too. "I'm sure you'll have a fantastic performance."
*
"I try, my motto is, like me or not, you'll be dazzled," and by the radiant smile she puts on her face as she says it, one can tell Dazzler wholly believes her words. Then again, anyone who witnessed her show knows there's nothing quite like it. The music might not be to everyone's taste, but the spectacle is certainly there.
*
"I should let you gget back to your set." Brian says after a moment more. "I don't want your fans to think I was keeping you from expanding their minds with your music and spectacle." He smiles, though. "I hope I'll be able to speak with you again sometime."
*
"Don't tease me…" Dazzler quips at Brian's playful way of acknowledging there are others who are far more desperate for a bit of time with their idol, and she impishly blows Brian a kiss, before starting to withdraw to the louder crowd, "I'd like that Brian, was pleased to meet you."
