"I miss the snow," The muffled voice from underneath the mask sounds a touch petulant as Spider-Man hangs upside down from an old Captain Morgan's Billboard, being pelted by the steady rainfall of the evening. A riotous pirate is brandishing a cutlass in the image with his heavy boot upon a treasure chest that's filled with bottles, but with the steady downpour of rain it casts the image on that billboard in a much less jovial way. Instead there's something about that pirate that looks almost menacing even as in the shadows beneath it, the blue and red vigilante tries to get the right angle for his camera.

As for the target of his photography it's none other than the procession of official looking vehicles outside of the United Nations building. At this time of the evening and with the weather like this it's hardly likely he'll get a good shot of one of those people that JJJ had set him out to find, but if he didn't take the chance well… sometimes it makes the difference between having money for the month for luxuries like… you know, food and stuff.

But then the cars start to roll off into the distance and the slim silhouette of the wallcrawler drops from the shadows and lands with a light thip-thap of footsteps upon the edge of the rooftop, crouching as the rain drops fall across the eyelets of his mask. He crinkles his nose behind it and says to himself. "Fooie, another wasted evening."

*

It might be raining, but an Amazon does not let the weather hinder her from training. In this case, Delphyne is practicing her building-running skills, leaping from building to building while tucking and rolling. She has her snakes bound behind her, and aside from wearing a light black jacket to shield herself from the rain, and jeans, she looks perfectly normal in the dark. Well, until one got a good look up close, anyway.

And as it happens, her latest leap carries her to the rooftop where Spidey is at, as she lands with a bit of an *oof* as it was a bit of a harder fall than she anticipated.

*

Her arrival is a little surprising, but he doesn't jump. There's no tell-tale jangle from his spider-sense, no malice in her approach. But then again she doesn't exactly espy him as she lands with that grunt, and it gives him a moment to gauge her. Girl in jeans and a jacket, out in the rain, running on roof tops. Yeah, that sets off warning signs. But then she's also green. Oh hey, snake girl.

He sits up a bit and one leg folded under him and the knee of the other propped up just enough for him to rest his elbow upon it as he looks across the way at her.

"Not a fit night for man nor beast. But seems like snakes and spiders are ok with it." The sliver of moonlight is enough to illuminate that red bewebbed mask and cause the mirrored irises of his visor to reflect her image back to her. He tilts his head to the side slightly, "This happy happenstance, or you following me around? Should we have chaperones? Do I need an adult?"

*

Delphyne blinks in surprise, not expecting the Spider-Man here, and shakes her head, "No, Scion of Arachne, I was not following you. Though I do not know what you mean by needing a… chaperone." Her accent is thick, and sounds vaguely Greek, as she weighs Spider-Man's words. Then she answers, "You have nothing to fear from me, I was simply practicing." Yup, even in the rain.

*

"I am my most unfortunate when I try to be funny, which is most of the time to be fair." With an ease of motion he rolls to his feet, standing upon the lip of the rooftop. He extends his arms out to the sides as if balancing himself while he walks along the edge of the abyss on the other side, and as he speaks he occasionally glances over at her. "Practicing what? Rooftop pizza delivery hasn't exactly taken off."

He hops down off of it and then stands opposite her, arms folding over his chest as those eyelets meet her gaze, no hint or insight into the man is given by the mask and his hidden eyes. But she perhaps can hear the smile in the words and his tone of voice, "I remember you." He points at her, "During that thing in midtown."

*

Delphyne meets the Spider's gaze evenly, not flinching as her eyes are definitely different, gold and reptilian. She then smiles faintly, "My people believe in being prepared, and I definitely do. It helped earlier, did it not?" She nods, "I was there. Mostly out of curiosity, though I'm glad I was able to assist with things." And secure a dress at Diana's request, though to be fair, she DID leave the money for it.

*

"Well, if you're looking to study the whole rooftop thing, I'm what is known as something of an expert." He gives a solemn nod as if speaking from some position of authority even as he casually does a slow walkover flip with one hand planted light upon the rooftop, ending up a few strides from her. "But, you know, lessons don't come cheap. I'm sort of a big deal and all." But then again she might even hear the smirk in his voice.

He starts to crawl up the side of a radio antenna, swinging around at the very top of it as he gestures with one hand. "Of course, I can understand how you might find the idea of a little competition being intimidating."

*

Delphyne smirks a bit, "I somehow think you have an advantage, as crawling on walls is not something I can do." She hmms, "At least, not like /that/." However, while she tries to hide it, she does sound somewhat impressed as Spidey puts on the display.

*

It's perhaps not so much a display, as with the mask on and even with the pattering of the rain, Peter Parker finds the costume liberating. And so when he talks, he just sort of moves. Sure it's a sign of an over-exhuberance and a bit too much energy, but everyone deals with things in their own particular way.

"Well, I'm sure you have your own abilities what with… you know… being… umm, tall? Green?" Oh did he just go there? Dang. But he hops back down to land in a partial crouch, one hand open a bit as he gives even as he teases, "Though, to be fair, you did handle those guys back then pretty well. So you must have some moxie and all that."

He touches a hand to his chest and then says, "So heya. I'm Spider-Man. Who are you?"

*

Delphyne smiles wryly, "I have been trained since birth to fight alongside my sisters. My name is Delphyne, Scio… er, Spider-Man." She looks a touch amused at Spider-Man's rambling, and continues, "Though I have the bloodline of a gorgon in my veins, it is not Medusa's lineage, so you don't have to worry about being petrified. Literally, that is." She pauses, then offers her hand, as if remembering people do that around here.

*

"Yeah, I sorta figured that if there was turning into stone to be done I woulda already been effected if… you know, that was going to be a thing." He eyeballs her hand, then accepts it in his own. Despite her being perhaps a smidge taller than him and his frame seeming rather lithe, when he takes her hand and gives it a firm shake she can feel the strength in his grip. Not that he is aggressive about it, more just at ease with the moment.

But then he steps back and wipes at the faint rain droplets over his brow with a forearm. "Delphyne, wasn't that… a muse? I'm probably misremembering. But hey. So are you going to do this whole crazy vigilante thing? Or just haven't found a gym yet so taken to running across rooftops for your cardio?"

*

Delphyne shakes her head, "Honestly, I do not know. There is a lot of injustice in your world." She frowns, looking out over the city, "Much beauty, but much trouble as well. It is… different, than where I am from." Her eyes flicker across the view of the buildings, then she glances back towards Spider-Man, "Why do you do this thing?"

*

With his manner, his patter, she might have expected a canned flippant answer. After all he does strive to be the clown, to make light of most any situation. But as she asks him he sort of walks backwards a few steps, turning his back to her and rubbing one gloved hand along the curve of his neck. He strolls over to an old industrial air-conditioner that sits there upon the rooftop, rusting away. With a small hop he settles atop it, turning back to look at her as he balances on the balls of his feet with his arms upon his knees.

"I figure you mean the whole vigilante thing, and aren't asking why I chat up green gals in the middle of the night." He spreads his hands a bit and with the needed humorous deflection delivered he looks away from her and again rubs the back of his neck. "Mmm. You're right, there's a lot of injustice. I just figured that when I got these powers I should do something more with them than… you know. Maybe joining the circus or something."

*

Delphyne nods, "Exactly. Though…" She pauses, then continues, "I imagine we could get quite a bit of business for a circus, from what I have seen of this world." Did she… make a joke? If so, she's not very good at it, but maybe she just has to try and banter?

*

"Hold on for a sec," He says as he looks up at that radio antenna. For a moment he cocks his head to the side, then he lifts a hand and there's a /thwwiiiiip/ of sound that comes from one of his web-shooters. A spray of webbing is swirled around and around about the extended jangling antennae superstructure, creating a nice makeshift… umbrella of all things. And it's just enough to provide some small relief from the rainfall, at least coming down on him.

Looking back up he gestures her closer so that they can chat without getting that much wetter. Then again his costume is already pretty soaking. Spidey lifts his chin to consider her. "See, you say that but some days after I read the Bugle I think that the circus life is a real possibility for me. And if that falls through I could just sell hot dogs, that could work too."

*

Delphyne shakes her head, but approaches Spidey, standing under the makeshift shelter as she hmms, "No, you wouldn't. You seem to know what duty is, which is… rare, in this world, from what I have seen. Not too many have that sense." She shivers a bit, disliking the cold spring air from the storm it seems.

*

"Yeah, well…" And, for once, Spider-Man falls quiet. He looks to the side and rubs a red and black fingertip over the bridge of his nose. He looks back towards her and instead of answering or responding to her words, he replies to that small shiver in her body language. "I'd offer you my jacket, but well… I don't have one."

He does lean forwards a bit and tilts his head to the side curiously. For a moment he looks her over, but not quite like a man does a woman, perhaps in this case more as a curious onlooker. "Are you sensitive to the cold?" He asks… since really it'd be rather rude to ask her if she's cold-blooded and all. Doesn't want to be speciesist.

*

Delphyne smiles a bit, "Ah, it's a little cool to my liking, but not horribly sensitive no. Besides, I have a jacket. It just isn't that useful right now, as I've been quite soaked from running. When I'm moving, I don't notice it so much."

*

"Well c'mon," He says, "Let's get moving." And with that Spider-Man rises to his feet and gestures over his shoulder. "I've got another lap around the city before I plan to settle in for a stakeout. Usually around this time of night is when the break ins happen, just because of the whole clouds and no moonlight thing." He offers her his hand to help her up onto the air conditioner and then perhaps even before she can answer he breaks into a jog towards the edge of the building and then bursts into a sprint to leap across the chasm between the two apartment complexes.

In the air he's a thing of grace, flipping, twisting, and then landing with a skid as he breaks into a run. Oh he could use a web line and all, but that would be cheating.

*

Delphyne grins, "Very well then!" She runs after Spider-Man, leaping into the air as she shouts, "HOLA!" She lands in a roll, using the momentum to get up to her feet and keep running. Though she's not nearly as strong nor agile as Spidey, she definitely has enough skill she could be in the Olympics… well, if she wasn't disqualified for being a gorgon anyway.

*

Delphyne has partially disconnected.

*

"Low bridge." The wallcrawler snaps over his shoulder even as he's sliiiiding over an aluminum bit of siding and under a length of pipe that blocks off a portion of the roof. He swirls back to his feet without breaking stride and rushes towards the other edge of the roof. He plants one foot, and then spins into the air, disappearing for a moment into the gap between the building…. only to catch the lip of a fire escape and to hurl himself back upwards across the way.

A few more strides, a few more dashes across rooftops a dozen or so buildings. Enough to get the blood pumping, enough to work up a sweat as they dart past a greenhouse. He ends the small race as he leaps one last gap and then reaches back towards her to help her make that last jump. When she makes the leap he catches her hand and helps her up onto the top of a water tower even as he sits down upon the edge of it. "Alright, so you've got a decent game."

*

Delphyne squeezes Spidey's arm as she makes the grab. She might normally bristle at the help, but in this case, she's seen what he can do, so that's alright. When he sits down, she sits down next to him, breathing a bit heavily from the exertion as she smiles, "I assume this is a good thing, then. Thank you." She nods, "Your gifts of Arachne serve you well, Spider-Man. Though from what I know of this world, you are not also the descendant of one cursed by Athena."

*

"Err, no." Spider-Man pulls his legs up and wraps his arms around his knees even as he looks across the way at the row of warehouses along the east river. At least the rain has stopped somewhat so now it's just a bit of a misting. "I mean, nothing that exciting."

Looking back at her those eyelets in his mask just reflect the skyline and her reflection, giving no insight into the man behind them. "And you're an actual like out of mythology type person? I mean, I've met some of the whole Norse people. They're a bunch of winners. But hadn't met any of the Greeks."

*

Delphyne hmms, "Well, not mythology, no…" She pauses, then shrugs a bit, "Are you familiar with the Amazons? From mythology? I believe they are mentioned now and again." Her eyes flicker out towards the city, not quite looking at Spidey just yet.

*

A small shrug of his shoulders would be seen if she were looking at him, but he says lightly. "Sort of? I mean, when I was in school, like I said, most of that was taught as mythology." He looks back across at the warehouses, watching the slow floating progression of a few boats in the river as they drift on by. He takes a deep breath then shakes his head.

"Like, to me, the Amazons were warrior women on an island. Hercules and I think… Odysseus? I could be wrong, they interacted with them. They had a queen who fell in love with someone? Though that might be just from the Saturday matinee movies I saw." He holds up a finger, "Oh and they cut off… err nevermind."

*

Delphyne snickers, "No, we didn't… but the ancient Greek /men/ couldn't think of any other way women could outfight them." She wrinkles her nose, "Heracles was… well, way before my time, of course. But it was not a pleasant chapter in our people's history." She glances over at Spidey, "Suffice to say that we have been isolated from the works of Man for thousands of years, until very recently. Now we are exploring this world that Man has built." There's a bit of a hard edge to her voice there, but not a fervent one as she looks back to Spidey.

*

"See, if I had known it was a special occasion I woulda worn something fancy." Spider-Man comments casually as he rests his head upon his knees, then he looks sidelong at her, "How are you finding it so far? The whole 'World of Man' thing." He straightens up a bit and gestures with one hand, "I mean I know it's not perfect. And really the last five years and some have been kind of crazy."

He looks back and away, out across the river. "But I think we're doing alright. We could have easily… you know, stopped existing. Blown up. Gotten overrun by monsters and demons and gods." He takes a breath. "But then again there are a lot of things we could do better."

*

Delphyne nods, "That is my thought as well. It is not as idyllic as my home, but then, you are men." She smiles faintly, "But while there is great injustice, there is good to be found here as well. Ones such as this Superman, or… well, you." A soft chuckle, "I have seen what the papers say, and those minstrels appear to be fools for saying such about you."

*

"Yeah, well. Easy for people to like you when yer Superman." Spider-Man smirks a bit under the mask, though hard to discern, but then again at this point she's probably getting a decent handle on how to read those small movements of fabric and features. "But when you have eight eyes and mandibles nobody wants to be your friend." He glances at her askance.

*

Delphyne glances back, "I somehow suspect you don't have eight eyes… or no more mandibles than /I/ have fangs." She pauses, "Well, my hair has fangs, but that's… a different story." She blushes a bit darker grin, though her smile was visible enough that you could tell… no fangs. Well, unless they retract or something.

*

"Don't get yer hopes up." Spider-Man grins again behind the mask, but then he rolls smoothly to his feet and gestures to the side as he does so. "C'mon. Let's finish the lap and then mebbe we'll see if Amazons like bagels."

And with that said, the wallcrawler takes a step forwards and /hops/ off the side of that water tower, falling down to the rooftop far below and landing lightly. Once there he breaks into a run, dashing off into the night with the gorgon girl.
