There's been no word regarding Sousa's kidnapping…wherever he was taken, it was an expert job. But randomly, out of the blue one evening, Peggy's private office phone rang. He's been found and freed and is currently at the hospital, chomping at the bit as he's being checked over. Luckily, he was fed and aside from some blistering and chafing from the chains that held him captive, he's pretty much free to go once he gives his report and someone comes to get him. It's only one of the reasons why Peggy was called.

Granted, he called the house first and found out Mickey was with his family so they were called next.

*

Working late because it's all she could do. Coordinating the teams looking for him, the care of the prisoner Bucky, anything she could do to distract herself. She blinks as the phone on her desk rings, but picks it up almost immediately, "Director Carter…" It might be news of something. Who knew what. But the whole organization knew she was working late, as she did every night.

*

"I'm sorry, I'm looking for my wife, Peggy? Is she around?" Sousa's voice sounds tired but in a fairly good mood. The phone is then held away for a moment as he seems to speak to a doctor or nurse, "Give me another couple of minutes and then you can poke around all you want." Back louder, "I'm fine…I'm just getting cleared by the doctors and making my report but they won't let me go home by myself. Can I hitch a ride with you?"

*

Hearing his voice, alive and in one piece, it just takes Peggy's breath away for a moment. The next sound across the phone is an almost sob as she holds back the tears she wants to spill, but can't entirely. "…Y-yes… yes… God, Daniel… Here. I'm right here. W-what… What hospital are you at? I'll be right there… Fast as I can, I promise…"

*

"Mount Sinai and I'm fine. Are you? You haven't popped yet, have you?" There's some more murmuring over the phone, "Dammit, they're making me hang up so that they can do the physical. Don't let them boss you around when you get here, Peg…" not that he thinks she would. "Don't rush too fast. I don't want to hear you crunched the car to get here…" Sousa says something else to one of the nurses that sounds a bit miffed, but he then offers, "See you soon. Be careful. Love you." No doubt the phone was then moved out of his reach so that the doctor and nurses could check him over.

*

"No, no, I'm fine! I love you, Daniel. I love you. I'll be right there!" No promises about not crunching the car, though. Of course, getting DOWN to the car is a challenge. Peggy is in full on exhausted waddle mode. But adrenaline does help, somewhat, as she pulls herself out of her office, not even bothering to grab her jacket as she goes for her Aston Martin in the underground garage. It will still be a good 30 minutes but the time she gets in the car, out of the garage, above ground, through traffic, and to the hospital. However, she's a battering ram coming in, at least three nurses trying to insist that she take a wheelchair herself, that she must be in labor, and she's just demanding her husband. It's a mess by the time she gets there.

*

By the time Peggy gets to the hospital, the initial physical is nearly done. Sousa is set up in a room, in a bed, his prosthetic off and set to the side, and an IV drip in his arm as he was dehydrated. He looks rather put out by all of this and is arguing with the doctors, explaining that no, he doesn't want to stay overnight for observation and they can give him a pair of damn crutches or a wheelchair because he -is- leaving once his wife gets here.

*

Peggy has refused every wheelchair they are offering her and there are two nurses flanking her as she finally comes through the door, "See? I told you. I'm here for *him*, not me, and I am *perfectly capable* of walking down a hall." Or, well, waddling down a hall. Because she was big as a house, definitely waddling, and looked ready to pop any moment. She also looked exhausted and ragged around the edges, but she was still going. She waddles over to his side, leaning in for a deep, immediate kiss. That's all she wants right now.

*

Sousa leans up and reaches to give that long, deep kiss. Forget the doctors and nurses. He has to reunite with his wife now. His hands reach up to her hair and hold her close until they both need to breathe. "I'm all right. I'm not hurt…just a little dehydrated. Once the bag is empty, I can go home." Right? The doctors get a glare as if he dares them to say anything different.

*

The kiss lingers a few heartbeats longer before she sinks half into the side of his bed, perching there, careful not to be on any tubes but she needs to sit and she wants to be at his side. "…As soon as I see the report. If you are healthy, I'll talk them into releasing you and we'll go home. I promise. But… your health comes first. God, what… What in bloody hell happened?"

*

"You tell me?" Sousa smirks. "One moment I'm at the platform to get home, the next I'm confronted with one of your ex-boyfriends who seems to think I stole you from him. He had half a dozen super-soldiers with him and they overpowered me. Then he chucked me away, claiming he was going to 'take his life back' with you. So, how'd that work out?"

*

"I never even saw him. He made one weird phone call and disappeared. Mad man, clearly… I had teams out looking for you twenty four seven, Daniel… God. I… I was so scared." Peggy looks half dizzy, slightly swaying now as the night is absolutely catching up with her. SHe just balances herself against his bed and sinks her forehead into his neck.

*

"Seriously?" One phone call and that was it? Sousa gives a grimace and scoots over on the bed to make a little room for Peggy to rest. He gestures for one of the nurses to at least get her a chair? "We should make sure he doesn't go after Mickey…he knew about her. But maybe he got scared off by the searching." Although he's rather surprised that no one on her team or his could find him.

*

"I've got a team of guards on your family up north. Two they know about, two they can't see. She's being monitored at all times, I promise. She's safe… I'm more worried about you right now." Peggy admits quietly, sinking into the bed as he moves over. She glares to any nurse that dares to separate them. She just wanted to be near him, even if it was a bit cramped, especially at her current size.

*

"I'm fine, really." He reaches out to rest his free hand on her as she lays down next to him, "I feel like you and I are just rotating in and out of the hospitals. Once the baby is born, let's not do that anymore, ok?" Sousa lets the now-grumpy doctors and nurses continue with their exam, but they'll have to work around Peggy.

*

While she's not happy about it, Peggy allows herself to be shifted off the bed and into a chair next to him so the doctors can finish their work. One hand rests against her heavily swollen belly, protective, and trying to calm child, or pain, or perhaps just heartburn. She didn't have time to feel off right now, she was there for him. "That… that sounds good to me. I will take you home the moment they say I can, I promise."

*

Sousa tries to keep his eyes on Peggy but the doctors are insistent. He goes through the rest of the exam willingly but with some frustration as he just wants to leave! "Are you feeling all right, Peggy?" He tries to get one of the nurses to check on her as well.

*

"Fine! Fine… kid's just rumbling around a bit. It's been a long day. We'll get you home soon. I'm just fine, don't you dare sick one of those vultures on me." Peggy huffs about the nurses around them, giving them a little glare that just DARES the woman to touch her. Soon enough, the hospital staff was going to WANT them to go, the pair of them were such horrible patients.

*

It could be that they're taking their sweet time to get the chart done…or maybe they do it as quickly as possible just to get the two of them out of their hair! Eventually, however, they decide that while they would prefer that he stay overnight for observation, he's good to go. They'll give him some crutches to use after they wheel him out. They aren't too happy to see Peggy leave either in her state, but they're not going to tie either of them down.

*

"Home. Bed. Sleep.. we'll get Mickey in the morning. But first… home." Peggy insists softly. If anything was entirely bothering her, it seems to have passed for now. There were always weird pains, this late in the game. She waddles slowly along side of his chair, having parked in somewhere probably illegal, but she had diplomatic plates and occasionally abused them. So, it's not too far to the car, giving a look at the orderly, daring him to say she shouldn't be parked there. She then moves for the passenger door, opening it for him. "There you go… almost there…"

*

Sousa crutches expertly once he's allowed to get out of the chair, "I'm fine, Peggy. Really. I wasn't tortured or anything…" which was rather surprising. The beating he got from the initial kidnapping has since faded to a few light bruises and aches. "You ok to drive?" He really should have talked to Howard about that car…

*

"I'm fine. I've been driving about like this the whole time you were gone, and working…I'm not having the baby this second, so I am fine." Peggy clips out in insistence, her expression stiff and determined. She might be tired and uncomfortable, but that was a constant state of being right now. She then waddles around into the driver's seat and, soon enough, they are taking off the road towards home.
