nightwing delphyne

It's a cool spring evening in the City, not too much disturbing the peace of the streets. The rooftops, well, that's another story.

At least for one building, it's another story anyway, as there's a fairly involved scuffle going on. On one side, a half-dozen ninjas, clad in red and not saying a word as they have their swords drawn and are attacking their target. And their target, appears to be a creature out of mythology. Specifically, a gorgon, complete with snakes for hair and wearing a black jumpsuit. While she has a sword sheathed at her side, as well as a few guns holstered, right now she holds a spear at the ready, swinging it to keep the ninjas at a distance.

*

Nightwing can't patrol the whole city himself, but he's learning which places tend to see more activity than others so attention is paid there. He makes his way back uptown from patrolling another area of the city when he catches sight of the scuffle on another rooftop. That in itself is enough to draw his attention as most normal people fight on the ground or inside.

But then again, he's wearing a mask and a costume and fighting bad guys in the dark of night, so who is he to talk about being 'normal'?

His own grappling hook makes purchase on a rooftop next door and he swings gracefully to land and observe a moment.

"Ninjas. Why'd it have to be Ninjas?" is muttered to himself before he pulls out his escrima sticks and tumbles in to join the fray.

*

And with Nightwing landing, the two ninjas in the back turn to face him, then charge with blades flashing. Not exactly the highest degree of skill, these guys.

Meanwhile, two more leap towards the gorgon, forcing her on the defensive as she blocks the strikes as if she was using a staff more than a spear. She then swings the butt-end of the spear, catching one ninja in the face and knocking him down with a solid *CRACK*.

*

While he hasn't fought many ninjas before, he did so somewhat recently, so the tactics and weapons are, at least, familiar. He first works on dodging the blades and gauging their skill before moving in with his own non-lethal attacks. There's a glance back to see how the woman is doing before he looks back to his own opponents. The escrima sticks block the blades as he kicks out to try and knock the ninjas breath out of them. "So, how'd you get the attention of these guys?" is called because apparently making conversation while fighting off ninjas is a 'thing'.

*

Delphyne blinks in surprise, not expecting conversation in the middle of a fight, even as she knocks out the other ninja trying to swing at her. "Not entirely sure." She shouts that back, her accent thick and sounding vaguely Greek. Spinning her spear around, she then drops it hastily and dodges to the side as the last two toss a few shurikens in her direction. One catches her leg, causing her to involuntarily yelp once in pain before she draws her sword. Since most heroes frown on gunplay, from her experience.

The two ninjas on Nightwing, however, aren't all that skilled, though the blades flash as they clang against the escrima sticks, trying to frantically get through the vigilante's guard.

*

Less-skilled ninjas are still ninjas and Nightwing isn't going to let his guard down just because he's fought tougher. The goal is to knock them out so that he can help the woman be rid of her own ninjas. "So you're saying that ninjas randomly cornered you on a rooftop in Hell's Kitchen?" Interesting. There's another glance over as she yelps and he moves in to try and smack his escrima sticks to the heads of his two ninjas. Time to get serious.

*

The two ninjas that fight Nightwing are clonked rather quickly, falling down as that leaves a clear path to where the gorgon is fighting the last two. Her sword clangs loudly against the strikes of the other two, as she definitely looks experienced in this kind of fighting.

Then she shouts, "No, I was investigating some unusual activity around here when they came at me. Apparently I was looking in the right place!" If the throwing star sticking in her left thigh is bothering her, she doesn't show it as she suddenly breaks through the guard of one of the ninjas, smacking him with the flat of the blade to knock him down.

*

Nightwing doesn't join the fray just yet; he doesn't want to somehow insult this stranger by taking out her opponents. Instead, he ties the other two ninjas' hands and feet together and kicks their blades far out of reach. "Need any help with these guys too or are you good?" There's an appreciation as to how she's handling their attacks, even with the throwing-star in her leg. "Well, I mean, this -is- Hell's Kitchen. Sort of a hotbed for 'unusual activity'."

*

The woman shouts back, "I have this!" Indeed, she locks her blade up with the ninja, then the snakes she has for hair spring forward, striking and biting the ninja repeatedly. The ninja shudders, then collapses to the ground, going rather limp. Then she hobbles a bit to sit down on the edge of the building.

She then looks over at Nightwing, "Thanks for the help though. Definitely wasn't expecting that many of… whatever these are. Don't worry, the toxin is paralytic, not fatal." Because she knows costumed people in this world worry about such things. And with that, she winces and pulls the throwing star out of her leg, hissing a bit under her breath.

*

"That's new…" is murmured as the snakes bite the ninja and it collapses. He looks from the woman to the ninja before moving to tie him up as well. "You're welcome," is offered louder, "And that's an impressive thing with your…uh…hair…?" Is it hair if it's snakes? He nods to her leg, "You going to be ok? That looks kind of nasty…"

*

Delphyne actually pulls a roll of bandages from a pocket at her waist, cinching it around the wound, "Looks worse than it is, didn't hit anything major." She binds her leg up a bit, "Though, I think I'm going to take it easy for the rest of the night." Her eyes flicker amusedly over towards Nightwing, as a few of the snakes regard him with curiosity, "Guessing you've never seen someone like me before."

*

"I have to say that you are quite unique, but then again, I've been out of town for a while. You can call me Nightwing," because what else does one do after fighting ninjas on a rooftop at night? Be social! He nods again to the leg, "You sure you don't need stitches or anything?" Getting down from the roof might be tough.

*

Delphyne shakes her head, "Don't think so. I tend to heal pretty quick, so…" She nods, "Nightwing, then. I am Delphyne." With that, she gets to her feet, and then her leg wobbles a bit, "Whoa, okay… this could be a problem." Her eyes narrow in irritation as she looks down at her leg.

*

Nightwing steps over to help her when she wobbles on her feet, "Come on, I can help…as long as your hair won't bite me." Then it clicks. Wait. Greek accent…snakes for hair…"So I should be glad I'm not Theseus, huh? Or is that something that can be turned off and on? Or just a story?" Because…Gorgon. He should have realized it before.

*

Del blinks, then laughs softly, putting an arm around Nightwing as she looks somewhat amused, "Perseus, actually, but no. I'm not of Medusa's bloodline, and I don't turn people to stone." She looks a bit rueful, "Would have made that fight a /lot/ shorter, if nothing else. Ah, could you help me retrieve that spear?"

*

Nightwing gives a snap which doesn't quite sound with his gloves on. "Right. Perseus. Theseus was the Minotaur." He seems more than happy to help the other, "That's very good to know and yes, I guess it would have. And then we'd have ninja-statues to deal with…" which still might not be such a good thing. He'll help her over to get the spear before glancing about. "Well, we can try to take the fire escape down or a faster way if you're amenable."

*

Delphyne tilts her head, looking confused, "Faster way?" She takes the spear and secures it to her back, "Ah, much better. Though, ninja-statues… I'm sure there's a nice garden or something that could use them." And since the fight is over, she retrieves a small scrunchie from her suit, binding up her snakes behind her head so she doesn't look /that/ unusual. Relatively, anyway.

*

There's a little less tension now that the snakes are out of the way. Nightwing then moves the two towards the ledge of the building and goes to secure the hook of his grapple hook. "If you're not afraid of heights we can climb or rappell down. Or take the stairs. You're the one with the bum leg, so you get the choice." He even gives a smile at that.

*

Delphyne looks a bit wryly at Nightwing, "Alright, don't drop me then." She says that rather deadpan as she tightens her grip, which is surprisingly strong considering her size, "Quicker seems to be better, in this case."

*

Nightwing looks quickly over at Delphyne when she makes that demand…so he's carrying her? "All right then…" it's not like he hasn't done this before, but…well, he made the offer. He can't do the tumbling that he might otherwise do to help slow and control his descent, so it's a mixture of a zipline and rapelling until they get down to street level. The hook is then flicked free with a couple of tugs to roll back into the case at his belt. "Now where to?" Before she can protest he offers, "I'm not just going to leave you here with a bum leg."

*

Delphyne clings tightly on the way down, then releases Nightwing once they land. At the offer of help, she hrms, "Well, I'm currently staying in a hostel, over by Mutant Town." She gets a bit of an amused look, "Not that I /am/ one, but I find I get stared at less there."

*

"All right then. And it's New York…either everyone stares or everyone ignores you. It all depends on the day." Nightwing grins again as he starts off actually -away- from Mutant Town. "Just a couple of blocks and then we'll get you there, don't worry. How do you feel about motorcycles?" Not that she has too much of a choice. He's just glad he parked it and didn't decide to run rooftops the entire night.

*

Delphyne blinks, "Ah, motorcycles… never rode one before, to be honest." She leans a little on Nightwing as she walks, but she does seem to be recovering a little bit, "And most of the time people seem to stare, until they remember their mythology and look away quickly." Her lips quirk a bit.

*

"I'm glad to hear people seem to know the mythology at least," Nightwing offers, grinning as well. "Sorry about the staring, though. Just stare at them back?" He's sort of got nothing there. It's a couple blocks and down an alley before they get to a black Harley motorcycle. "Just hold on, ok?"

*

Delphyne nods, "Alright, then." She gets on a bit gingerly, more out of unfamiliarity it seems than the fact her leg is bothering her that much, then puts her hands on Nightwing's waist as she situates herself, "Like this?"

*

"Sure," is offered as he revs up the motor. It starts up easily and he tells her, "Hold on," before they start roaring down the street, circling back around so that they finally head in the direction of Mutant Town. With the lack of cars at this hour, it's a lot easier to navigate the streets of the city…and a lot more fun!

*

Delphyne blinks in surprise at the speed, instinctively sliding closer and wrapping her arms around Nightwing at that point. But then she laughs, enjoying the ride, "Do you always travel like this? I think I need to acquire one of these motor-cycles."

*

Nightwing grins at the laughter but doesn't look back, "Not always, but it's handy. Easier than a car but might take some more maintenance. I highly recommend it! Glad you're enjoying the ride!" It won't take them too long to get to the edges of the Mutant Town neighborhood and the bike slows, the engine's roar softening to a purr. "Where's this hostel and are you going to be ok once you're in there? How's the leg?"

*

Delphyne hmmms, "Better, I think, though I might be off of roof-running for a few days." She hrms, "Well, where I'm from, I'm used to riding horses, so this isn't /that/ different." Now, how to afford one is going to be the question, as she says, "It's up a few blocks, then over."

*

Nightwing is going to take her as close as possible due to the bum leg, "Hard to find horses around here, but not impossible. I think you can rent them to ride near Central Park, but…keeping them and in this traffic? Probably pretty tough." Not to mention the cleanup. The Harley roars back to life as they go those few blocks and then 'over' as directed. "Probably louder than a horse. You ok from here or need me to help you in?"

*

A soft chuckle at that, "I shall be fine, I believe. Will probably stay down for a day or two before resuming my investigation." She slides out of the seat, taking that leg a bit gingerly but not seeming too lame from the experience, "Thank you for the assistance.'

*

Nightwing remains on the motorcycle but gives a nod of his head, "You're welcome. Be careful next time you battle ninjas…or get a shield or something. Those throwing-stars are doozies!" But he flashes her another grin and, after making sure she's stable and can make it to the hostel door, he revs up the engine to ride off.
