Well, the first visit had been a bit anti-climatic. She hadn't come across Mister Rogers while there, and while Crystal had been the soul of gracious welcome, Mister Stark had put her back up. Time to try again. Blonde curls bounce against the shoulders of her light weight lilac summer dress, paired with a deeper purple oversized purse hanging from her shoulder. Amethysts spark at her ears, and a small echo on a finger. She does not look like the nurse, or the woman of Hell's Kitchen, currently. Someone who's an avid observer of the upper glass may recognize her, but otherwise…
She applies a touch more lip gloss, before she straightens her shoulders, and marches up to the door to knock. One can not say Thea Harman isn't a …determined young woman. Stubborn has so many negative connotations.
*
Carol was actually going over some work after getting back from Madripoor. She's dressed casually for a change, not in her SHIELD uniform nor her outfit as Warb… Captain Marvel, for that matter. Then she hears the door knock as she walks through the foyer, and moves to the door. Cracking the door open a bit, she looks out to see who's there, and tilts her head at Thea curiously. "Yes, can I help you?"
*
The faint hope it would be Crystal answering the door evaporates at the sight of the striking blonde woman. Thea summons up a bright smile, offering a hand. "Hi. I'm Thea Harman. Mister Rogers gave me this address, after an interesting.. interlude in the park where a criminal was apprehended. He appreciated my talents, shall we say?" She feels so damn awkward, and exposed. It is not something she likes, trying to phrase things without being obvious.
*
Carol Danvers ahs, then grins, "Oh, I see. Well, Steve isn't in right now, but come on in." She chuckles, "At least he made you an offer… me, he just asked to help consult with some things." If she sounds insulted by that, it's a pretty low-key thing, as she opens the door for Thea, then ahs, "Guess since you're a super, I suppose I should change." There's a quick flash of light from her, and when it fades, it's… well, Captain Marvel. Or Warbird, or whatever she calls herself in public.
*
Thea will accept the invite, stepping inside and being sure to close the door behind her. "An offer? Oh no, he just.." She shakes her head. "He said I might be interested in things being done." There's the faintest flush, and awed look at the change of clothes in the light. "I'm a nurse, ma'am. I'm not a super anything." At least, she's not in her head. "I just helped stop a robbery.. " Her chin will lift as she swallows hard. "I'm a mutant, I admit."
*
Captain Marvel grins at that, "Well, Ms. Harman, if Steve saw something in you worthwhile, then you're definitely far more than just a nurse and a mutant." She smiles, leading the way into the mansion proper, "I've been helping out with some recent business, though Steve hasn't made any sort of serious pitch to me yet. Maybe we can tackle him together." She gets a bit of a sly look in her eyes, giving Thea a bit of an impish glance, "Frankly, I think he's nervous that I finished a Colonel when he's only a Captain." Then she winks at Thea, chuckling at her own joke.
*
Thea flushes again, though her chin stays tipped up just that tiny bit. "I just used my powers to make an armed robber pass out. Steve was ready to take care of it.. I just beat him to the punch." She'll leave out the every day part of saving the life of the cop who had been shot all at the same time. Thea's modest, sometimes. "But that's what my powers are. It's way I'm a nurse. I.. heal. " There's a twitch of a smirk. "Most of the time." Then there's a laugh. "You intimidate him, clearly. He's afraid to ask you to join up, because you outrank him."
*
Carol grins wryly at Thea, "Men, right? But let me give you a nickel's worth of free advice, Ms. Harman. You can't afford to sell yourself short. Because everyone else is going to do it for you, don't help them out with that." She smiles, "Steve's a good man, but it's better to be selling yourself harder than playing the modesty card. At least, in general that's been my experience with life." She gives Thea a knowing look, and says smoothly, "Because powerful women always intimidate men, so they trick you into thinking one thing. That you aren't as powerful as you think. Even if you don't have tangible powers." Then she stops, and grins sheepishly, "Sorry, I can get ranty sometimes."
*
Thea tilts her head at the mention of advice, and there's a chuckle. "I'm a little shy about being blunt about being a mutant, yet. I lack no confidence in my powers themselves. I know just how.. versatile my abilities are, on top of my experience and knowledge. " But there's a smile. "Don't apologize. It's a nice change from my mother's horror at me being a working woman and how I should be a nice, quiet young lady and find an appropriate man to marry."
*
Carol Danvers snorts. "My dad was the same way. He refused to pay for my college, because I didn't need an education and should be happy getting hitched up. So I walked out of the house and right into the Air Force recruitment center." She grins, "Never flew in combat, but I can fly ten times better than any man, even /before/ I got my powers." Yeah, fighter jock mentality, that explains a lot. Then she gestures towards the dining room, "Think we have some tea or lemonade, if you wanted something to drink? I'm sure there's no problem with waiting, Ms. Harman."
*
"Thankfully, my father just views it as curious. He's very much more worried about me being happy, and my safety living in the Kitchen. They don't know… " There's a shrug. "My grandfather… you'd think he'd be all against it, old Greek man who loves tradition.. but he sends me care packages and notes.. and admittedly money. He knows. It's all.. weird, families." There's another smile. "I would love a lemonade."
*
Captain Marvel leads the way into the dining room, then gestures, "Have a seat." She smiles and goes into the kitchen, coming back with a pair of lemonades. Setting one down on the table by Thea, she crosses over to another chair and sits down. "So, what exactly /can/ you do? And remember, don't sell yourself short." She grins at Thea, looking pretty easy-going about it as she sips from her glass, though her eyes seem to be pretty intense.
*
Thea slides into the seat, setting down her purse, and hands lift to push hair back behind her shoulders. There's a roll and stretch of her shoulders, a smile as Carol returns. "Thank you." She'll murmur, accepting the glass and taking a sip. There's a hint of a smirk, as brown eyes assess the woman in front of her. "You want the boring, clinical stuff, right? You're too nice to demonstrate on." There's a hint of a grin at that. "I can make someone's blood pressure rise enough to give them a aneurysm, or I can make someone pass out by withholding their oxygen from their lungs. I can heal injuries, see sickness… "
*
Carol blinks, then nods, "That's… actually pretty damn useful. Is there anything showing that you'd be doing that to someone? Like…oh, say a glow or a sound or something, aside from what it's actually doing to the person?" Ever the spy, Carol's definitely finding useful ideas for the powers Thea is talking about.
*
Thea chuckles. "While I have seen a young man who changes color and has a similar.. " there's a hand gesture there, trying to come up with the words. "Skill set… I do not. I mean, there may be some pupil dilation or contraction, perhaps a minor fluctuation in my respiration or perspiration, but no.. to the casual observer, it's undetectable."
*
Captain Marvel tilts her head, and says, "If you don't mind… try something with me. I just want to see your limits." She extends a hand towards Thea, and chuckles a bit, "I want to see how much you can do, and don't worry. I'm actually pretty tough, Ms. Harman. And don't worry, you won't get into trouble."
*
Thea arches an eyebrow at the other blonde, as if calculating. She will lift her glass for a swallow of lemonade, and Carol will feel the beginning of not having enough air. Her lungs will strain.
*
Carol pauses, tilting her head, her breathing becoming a bit labored, as she suddenly glows a little, sparkling motes appearing around her as she channels… something, her biosigns are clearly way above the norm for a person. However, regenerating damage isn't the same as her own biometrics getting mucked around with, and she gasps out a brief, "Okay, Ms. Harman… that's… impressive." She smiles a bit, despite the discomfort.
*
Thea sets her glass down, completely unruffled, as if she's just sipping lemonade with a friend. "That was barely touching your lungs. While you're biosigns are closer to mister Rogers than those of a normal human.. I didn't want to get too carried away."
*
Captain Marvel grins, "And you didn't even look like you were doing /anything/… that's really good." She hmms, "Well, I don't know if Steve will listen to me, but he typically does, and if you can do that plus healing people, I'm sure there'd be a place for you here, if you want it."
*
"Well, with your obvious boost, you'd never need my nursing…but Steve's already seen it. The man I stopped shot a police officer in the chest before I..accosted him. The officer is fine. He'll have a faint soreness in that part of his chest for a few days.. by now he's good as he was before he got shot. I chose my profession deliberately."
*
Carol nods, "Indeed. Well, you never know… and I was thinking more about your offensive powers too." She smiles wryly, "Could have used those in Madripoor, that's for sure."
*
"Well, most people see what I do and think healing. But I'm not opposed to going on the offensive when there's a reason." There's a hint of a grin on the blonde's face, a fierceness hidden under manners.
*
Captain Marvel hmms, "That's good. That's very good. And that will definitely help. I'll definitely be putting in a few good words about you to Steve, if you want to join the merry group." She raises her lemonade in a toast to Thea, "Hopefully he's listen, but I believe that he should." Especially after Madripoor.
*
"Well, he seemed interested enough to ask me to come on over here and hear the pitch. Seeing so many women around has certainly improved my initial impressions, I will say." She will lift her glass to touch Carol's, that hint of a grin coming out full. "If he's smart, he'll listen. "
*
Carol chuckles, "He is pretty bright, so I think he will. Especially if I'm endorsing you. I believe that will help out a lot." She smiles and drinks the lemonade, then sets the glass down, "If you want to wait here until he returns, that'd be fine I think. It isn't like the mansion is terribly crowded right now after all."
*
"I just wouldn't want to be intruding. I mean.. if soemone shows up and wonders who the hell I am. Or is just rude, like the first time I tried to visit." But Thea's smile is amused, so it couldn't have been all bad, right? "
*
Carol Danvers laughs a bit, "Ah, well, I can take care of myself pretty well, but I can see where that's awkward for you." She smiles warmly to Thea, "On the bright side, I don't think he'll be gone too long. If you had a number, I could call you back when he gets here."
*
"I do, but if it's all the same, I wouldn't mind checking out the library. I try to read on my days not at the hospital, it keeps the brain active." Thea's request has a note of hope..she's seen the library. Books for days!
*
Carol Danvers grins and rises back to her feet, "Certainly, it's not /that/ much yet, but you are definitely welcome to stay there until Steve gets back. Right this way, Ms. Harman." She gestures, taking her glass with her as she leads the way onward.
*
Thea will follow like an obediant duckling. She's run out of books at home, and hasn't had time to get to a library or go to her parents' to raid for books. "Do you want to join the team, ma'am?"
*
Carol blinks in surprise at the question, then smiles back at Thea, "Honestly, I hadn't thought much about it before Steve asked me to consult, but… yes, I really would want to join. I mean, when Steve Rogers asks you to be on a team, how can you say anything but yes?" She smiles wryly, "Telling that man no is a hard thing, let me tell you. Especially when he's right."
*
Thea just looks at her. "Well, you /do/ outrank him. Maybe he thought asking you was presumptuous. You're a superhero in your own right, and not everyone that's a star wants to be part of a team." She shrugs. "Don't sell yourself short, someone told me. Tell him you want in on more than consulting."
*
Captain Marvel laughs, "Point well taken, and I plan to tell him exactly that. Though it is true, I've been doing a lot of solo work as it is. So…" She shrugs a bit, "Hadn't thought about that being a possible issue, to be honest."
*
Thea just smiles faintly. "Between rank and your own superheroing, he might have felt it would be out of place. Men can be thick headed sometimes, no matter how pretty their eyes."
*
