December in New York meant snow, skating at Rockafeller Center, and cider. Well sometimes cocoa but it doesn't alliterate as well. Still the holidays were about spending time for family and for the Miller twins it generally meant getting up to trouble, though this year figuring out a new definition of 'family' also seemed on the roster now also including Motes, Maximus, and mayhem.

Today's 'mayhem' was a trip downtown under the barrage of sparkling lights, and a fantastic sized ice rink in the plaza for a social to-do. Bundled up in peacoat, gloves, earmuffs and a scarf even Kaleb was in a good mood. Besides if more things from other planets wanted to ruin the planet or something next Tuesday it was the perfect time to get skating in. "Kellan remember the last time we came out here?" He looked to Max and was curious, "You guys have skating back home or is that one of those fall off a mountain hazards? How cold does it get up there? Does stuff even freeze?" Yeah Kaleb was having a good day judging by the 80 questions.

*

"We have skating of a sort, yes, though…I have no idea if I would be any good at it. I've never tried. Too 'dangerous'." He rolled his eyes. "Do you both know how? And to answer the question, its very cold a lot of the time. We do not get a warm summer like here. The climate can be controlled to not be unbearably harsh, but…we cannot fight the entirety of winter, and it comes through." This might explain why Maximus shows up with his shirt off quite a bit, in the warmer climate of New York.

*

Similarly bundled up, Kellan is difficult to discern from Kaleb save for the fact that his scarf is a different color and he has no earmuffs, his cheeks pink from the chill and his hair a bit longer, a little more touseled. He nods when asked if he remembers the last time that they were there, and then grins over at Max and says, "Yeah, we both know how."

*

Kaleb had an easy smile tonight making him even that much closer to identical to his easier going twin. Kellan answered, but Kaleb nodded. It was a weird sort of tandum communication and he was content to be spoken for to that extent. "Too dangerous? Most things worth their salt are at elast a little dangerous. It's not too bad. . We promised to initiate you into the holidays, we start," Gloves went out in a gesture to the people liek he was presenting them as some great gift, "Here-ish. Seriously though, you ahve all that cold and not letting you skate is sort of criminal." He squint at Kellan and curiously asked him, "What are the odds Max can create a law to make that prohibition unlawful? Think it'd work?"

*

"It would not work, in this case. Growing up before our transformation, we wewre…/sheltered/, to say the least. guarded. As your Kings and Queens are. After all that work, genetically, it would be a shame if it tripped down the stairs and died." Maximus purr-rumbles, forming a smooth smile on his face. "They can hardly do anything about what I do /now/ though. Let us try." If he's having difficulty telling the brothers apart, its when Kaleb looks at him that he can tell the difference. God help him if they switch scarves.

*

"Then lets get ou skates on and get out there," Kellan says with a grin to the pair of them, reaching out and tugging both by their coats over toward a bench to sit down and put them on. He has no trouble tugging off his boots and lacing up his own skates. He even owns a pair, rather than renting them. "I guess I can understand why they'd be a bit protective.. but now.. you can do what you want.. and since you're stuck here with us, we may as well do all the things you can't back home that are fun."

*

Kaleb unshouldered his bag. and sat on the bench gesturing one hand to Kellan, "My optimistic self, everyone." He nodded to Kellan with upmost seriousness, "Well said, brother." He pulled out a pair of black boots, broken in with blades on teh bottom, and a second pair. "I grabbed my older set for you to try on. YThe renting situation her is much like the roller rink. No they don't understnad what 'new-new' means, and thought not to put you through that again." He grinned to Kellan and started unlacing his winter boots and tried not to be too terribly amused at the memory of Maximus trying to haggle and educate the roller rink clerk. "It is a bit weirdly fortunate."

*

Maximus takes the skates from Kaleb and then takes off his own shoes, though he's definitely watching what Kaleb does with his own shoes after the fact. He rather likes these shoes…they were a gift, and he doesn't want one of these peasants stealing them. He swallows and tries on the older skates of Kaleb's. "Did we go to a roller rink?"

*

"I think he meant the bowling alley," Kellan says to Max when they talk about the shoes and the little argument over new new shoes versus new shoes. Once he has his skates on, he pulls himself to his feat. He, Max, and Kaleb are all seated on a bench getting on their ice skates before heading out to the rink. He manages to get his balance easily enough and then rocks back and forth a little, hands in his pockets, looking out and around, perhaps looking for a mote in particular.

*

Vicarrives late, having just gotten off work. The moment he shows up, he sits and puts on his skates, eager to get out on the ice. He's in a sweater, with a scarf wrapped around his neck and gloves on his hands. He's bundled in a woolen coat, and his eyes are bright and eager. "Hey guys," he says as he skates over to where the others are. "It's been ages since I've been here."

*

Kaleb really thought about it and considered with a squint. "Bowling alley. There were shoes, something rolled, there was alcohol involved I remember." It was close enough. There was an upnod "Heeeey, Vic." When Max was following his ead he left space in the duffel bag and then pointed. "They have lockers. And if anyone touches our things we condemn them to a life of making terrible children's programming with or let them get beat up by Sherri Lewis. Neither are good."

*

Maximus nods after a moment's thought and puts the shoes into the bag. Good to know that Kaleb was also insane! He gets his laces done and then puts one hand on the bench as he stands up, mostly so that he doesn't look like an idiot.

When Vic skates over, Kellan goes out onto the ice to meet him, sliding on over to him and coming to a stop next to him, grinning. "Hey. How was work?" He then watches as Max gets up and leaves Kaleb to making sure that their shoes in the dufflebag are appropriately and duly guarded. He skates backward a little, seeming to very quickly gain his balance on the surface.

*

Vic says, "It was busy. I like busy." He waves over at Maximus and Kaleb, and he tells Kellan quietly, "I wish i could greet you properly." For a guy in the closet, he looks awfully sappy at Kellan.

*

Kaleb looked like a man with a menichael plan that may involve a woman in a sweater beating up thieves with a sheep hand puppet. He might be running a little light on sleep, but hey, at least he was in a good mood. He turned idly backwards and drifted a bit watching Max not fall down. It was a good start. The bag was zipped shut "Vic, Kell got anything for the locker before I close it up? He didn't mind the dimes but the going back was a hastle. "The trick is don't try to walk> Use your feet to brush aside things like filthy crumbs."
